Creating and Managing SharePoint Sites
Creating a Subsite
| 1 | To begin creating a team site as a subsite of the current site, on the Team Web Site Home page, on the top link bar, click Create. |
| 2 | To display a list of the types of Web pages and sites you can create, in the left pane of the Team Web Site Create Page, on the Select a View menu, click Web Pages. |
| 3 | To create a subsite, in the right pane of the Team Web Site Create Page, under Web Pages, click Sites and Workspaces. |
| 4 | To provide a title, description, and URL name for the site, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, wait as the text is typed for you, and then click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar. |
| 5 | To create the team site with the same permissions as the current site, with Use same permissions as parent site selected, click Create. |
| 6 | To create a site with a document library and basic lists, on the Marketing Team Site Template Selection page, with Team Site selected in the Template list, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click OK. |
| 7 | To return to the top-level site, on the top link bar, click Up to Team Web Site. |
| 8 | To begin creating a meeting workspace as a subsite of the current site, on the top link bar, click Create. |

Managing Site Users and Permissions
| 1 | To begin separating the permissions of the subsite from those of its parent site, in the Marketing Team Site Home page, on the top link bar, click Site Settings. |
| 2 | To display the options pertaining to site users, site management, and site collection administration, under Administration, click Go to Site Administration. |
| 3 | To change the way permissions are assigned to this subsite, under Users and Permissions, click Manage permission inheritance. |
| 4 | To assign an independent permission structure to this subsite, in the Permissions area, click Use unique permissions, and then click OK. |
| 5 | To begin changing a site user's permissions, under Administration, click Manage users. |
| 6 | To display the site group membership of a particular user, on the Marketing Team Site Manage Users page, click Mike Galos. |
| 7 | To prevent the selected user from creating new lists, creating document libraries, and customizing pages, in the Site Group Membership area, next to Site groups, click to clear the Administrator - Has full control of the Web site check box. |
| 8 | To allow the selected user to add content to the existing structure, in the Site Group Membership area, next to Site groups, click to select the Contributor – Can add content to existing document libraries and lists check box, and then click OK. |
| 9 | To begin adding a user to the current site, under Manage Users, on the link bar, click Add Users. |
| 10 | To enter the new user's login name in the Users box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, and the name will be typed for you. |
| 11 | To add the new user as a Contributor, in the Choose Site Groups area, click to select the Contributor – Can add content to existing document libraries and lists check box, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click Next. |
| 12 | To finish adding the user without sending an e-mail message, on the Marketing Team Site page, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click Finish. |
Changing a Site's Theme
| 1 | To begin applying a theme to the current site, on the Marketing Team Site Home page, on the top link bar, click Site Settings. |
| 2 | To display the available themes, in the Customization area, click Apply theme to site. |
| 3 | To preview a theme, in the Select a Theme area, in the list, click Afternoon. |
| 4 | To preview other themes, in the Select a Theme area, in the list, click Canyon, click Iris, and then click Journal. |
| 5 | To apply the selected Journal theme, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click Apply. |
| 6 | To display the subsite's home page with the new theme applied, on the top link bar, click Home. |
Creating and Using a Custom Template
| 1 | To begin saving a subsite as a custom template, on the Customer Service Team Home page, on the top link bar, click Site Settings. |
| 2 | To display options pertaining to site users, site management, and site collection administration, under Administration, click Go to Site Administration. |
| 3 | To save the current SharePoint site as a site template (.stp) file, on the Customer Service Team Site Administration page, under Management and Statistics, click Save site as template. |
| 4 | To specify the name of the .stp file, the name that will show in the template list, and the template description, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, and the text will be typed for you. |
| 5 | To save the contents of the document libraries and lists as a part of the custom template, click to select the Include content check box. |
| 6 | To save the custom template with the specified settings, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click OK. |
| 7 | To see all the templates now available from the top-level site, on the Operation Completed Successfully page, click the underlined site template gallery link. |
| 8 | To begin creating a new subsite based on the custom template, on the top link bar, click Site Settings. |
| 9 | To display a list of sites and workspaces in this site's hierarchy, under Administration, click Manage sites and workspaces. |
| 10 | To create a new site or workspace, on the Sites and Workspaces toolbar, click Create. |
| 11 | To provide the title, description, and URL name for the new subsite, press SPACEBAR, wait as the text is typed for you, and then click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar. |
| 12 | To give the subsite the same permissions as the current site, with Use same permissions as parent site selected, click Create. |
| 13 | To apply the attributes of the custom template, in the Template list, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar and click Customer Service Group Template, and then, on the page, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar and click OK. |
Deleting a Subsite
| 1 | To begin deleting a subsite, on the top link bar, on the Premier Service Team Site Home page, click Site Settings. |
| 2 | To confirm that the subsite you want to delete has no subsites or workspaces, under Administration, click Manage sites and workspaces. |
| 3 | To return to the Site Settings page, on the Manage Sites and Workspaces - Microsoft Internet Explorer toolbar, click Back. |
| 4 | To display the subsite's users, permissions, management, statistics, and site collection options, under Administration, click Go to Site Administration. |
| 5 | To delete the current subsite, under Management and Statistics, click Delete this site. |
| 6 | To finish deleting the current subsite, on the Delete Web Site page, click Delete. |
