Sending Newsgroup and Instant Messages
Subscribing to Newsgroups
| 1 | To start the Outlook Newsreader, click the View menu, point to Go To, and then click News. |
| 2 | To begin setting up a newsgroup account, in the Microsoft Outlook Newsreader, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts... |
| 3 | To create a new newsgroup account, in the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click News... |
| 4 | To include your name as it will appear in the From line of your messages, in the Internet Connection Wizard, in the Display name box, type Jeff P, and then click Next. |
| 5 | To specify your e-mail address, in the E-mail address box, type jeffp. |
| 6 | To continue setting up your newsgroup account, click Next. |
| 7 | To gain access to the news.microsoft.com server, which hosts newsgroups related to Microsoft products, in the News (NNTP) server box, type news. |
| 8 | To finish setting up your news account, click Next, and then click Finish. |
| 9 | To close the Internet Accounts dialog box and begin downloading newsgroups from the account you added, click Close. |
| 10 | In response to the message asking if you want to download the newsgroup you added, click Yes. |
| 11 | To locate a newsgroup to subscribe to, in the Newsgroup Subscriptions dialog box, point to the Newsgroup list scroll box, hold down the mouse button, and drag the scrollbox to the bottom of the scroll bar. |
| 12 | To subscribe to a newsgroup, in the Newsgroup list, click microsoft.test, and then click Subscribe. |
| 13 | To display the newsgroup to which you've subscribed, in the Newsgroup Subscriptions dialog box, click the Subscribed tab. |

Viewing and Sending Newsgroup Messages
| 1 | To view the contents of a newsgroup, in the Outlook Newsreader, in the Folders list, click the microsoft.test newsgroup. |
| 2 | To view the contents of a message, double-click the first message. |
| 3 | To compose a message to post to the newsgroup, on the Standard toolbar of the message form, click Reply Group. |
| 4 | To post the message, on the Standard toolbar of the message form, click Send. |
| 5 | In response to the message telling you that your post may not appear immediately, click OK. |
| 6 | To open a message that has been posted to the newsgroup, double-click the Test message from Patrick Sands. |
| 7 | To reply directly to to the sender of this message, on the Standard toolbar of the message form, click Reply. |
| 8 | To close the message without sending it, click the File menu, and then click Close. |
| 9 | To close the open message window, click the File menu, and then click Close. |
| 10 | To check for new messages in the newsgroup, in the Outlook Newsreader, click the Tools menu, then click Synchronize Newsgroup. |
| 11 | To make sure that only new messages are downloaded, in the Synchronize Newsgroup dialog box, click the Get the following items check box, and then click New messages only. |
| 12 | To finish downloading new messages, in the Synchronize Newsgroup dialog box, click OK. |
Sending Instant Messages
| 1 | To begin adding instant messaging information to an Outlook contact, double-click the Chris Hill contact. |
| 2 | To add the e-mail address that Chris Hill uses for instant messaging, in the Chris Hill – Contact form, click in the IM address box, and type chris. |
| 3 | To update the contact information, click Save and Close. |
| 4 | To check if Chris Hill is online, in the Contacts folder, double-click the Chris Hill contact. |
| 5 | To begin an Instant Message conversation, in the Chris Hill - Contact form, below the General tab, click the InfoBar that says Chris is online. |
| 6 | To ask Chris a question, in the Chris - Instant Message window, in the message box, type Hi. |
| 7 | To send the message, click Send. |
| 8 | To close the Instant Message window, click the File menu, and click Close. |
