Working with Footnotes and Bookmarks


Adding Footnotes and Endnotes

1 To count the words in a document, click the Tools menu and then click Word Count...
2 In the Word Count dialog box, take note of the details in the Statistics area. To close the Word Count dialog box, click Close.
3 To insert a footnote at the end of the first paragraph, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Footnote...
4 In the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, in the Location area, notice that Footnotes is already selected and click Insert.
5 Notice that Word inserts the reference mark 1 in the text. To enter the note text, in the Notes pane, type See Poland.
6 To close the Notes pane, in the Notes pane, click Close.
7 To switch to Print Layout view, in the bottom-left corner of the Word window, click the Print Layout View button (third button from left).
8 To scroll down the page, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
9 To specify the location of the next footnote you want to insert, click at the end of the paragraph just above the headline What Is a Compost Pile?
10 To insert your footnote here, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Footnote…
11 In the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, in the Location area, notice that Footnotes is already selected, and click Insert.
12 Notice that the reference mark 2 appears in the text, while the insertion point moves to the end of the page. To insert your note text, type See Bowen.
13 To scroll down in the document window, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
14 To specify the location of an endnote you want to insert, click at the end of the paragraph that ends with the word delphiniums.
15 To insert your endnote here, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Footnote...
16 In the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, in the Location area, click Endnotes.
17 To select a new number format, in the Format area, click the Number format arrow, click I, II, III, ..., and then click Insert.
18 Notice that the insertion point has moved to the reference mark at the very end of the document. To add your endnote text, type See Sutton.
19 To convert this endnote to a footnote, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Footnote…
20 In the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, in the Location area, notice that Endnotes is already selected and click Convert...
21 In the Convert Notes dialog box, click Convert all endnotes to footnotes, and then click OK.
22 To close the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, click Close.
23 To recount the words in the document and include footnotes in your count, click the Tools menu and then click Word Count...
24 In the Word Count dialog box, click the Include footnotes and endnotes checkbox to insert a check mark.

Revising Footnotes and Endnotes

1 To view a footnote in the Notes pane, at the end of the first paragraph, double-click the reference mark for footnote 1.
2 To locate a footnote reference mark, in the Notes pane, in footnote 3, click the blank space between See and Sutton .
3 Notice that the document has scrolled to display reference mark 3 at the top of the document window. To locate reference marks for footnotes 2 and 1, press the Up arrow key two times.
4 To close the Notes pane, click Close.
5 To switch from Normal view to Print Layout view, in the bottom left corner of the document window, click the Print Layout View button (third button from left).
6 To browse for footnotes without the help of the Notes pane, at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar, click the Select Browse Object button (the small circle).
7 On the Select Browse Object menu, click the Browse by Footnote button (row 1, column 3).
8 Notice that the cursor moves to reference mark 2 in the document. To locate reference mark 3, at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar, click the Next Footnote button (bottom button).
9 To select a footnote you want to copy, click to the left of reference mark 3, hold down the mouse button and drag to the right until the reference mark is selected.
10 To display the entire paragraph that contains this reference mark, click the scroll arrow at the top of the vertical scroll bar four times.
11 To copy the footnote to the end of the first sentence of this paragraph, hold down the CTRL key, point to the selected reference mark 3, hold down the mouse button, and drag to the end of the first sentence in this paragraph (which ends with feed).
12 To select a footnote you want to delete, point to the left of reference mark 4, hold down the mouse button and drag to the right until the footnote is selected.
13 To delete the footnote, press the DELETE key.
14 To begin locating a specific footnote, click the Edit menu and then click Go To...
15 In the Find and Replace dialog box, in the Go to what list, notice that Footnote appears selected, and in the Enter footnote number box, type 1.
16 To go to footnote 1, click Go To.
17 Notice that the cursor has moved to footnote 1 at the top of the document. To close the Find and Replace dialog box click Close.
18 To begin changing the format of reference marks, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Footnote...
19 In the Footnote and Endnote dialog box, notice that Footnotes is selected. In the Format area, click the Number format arrow, and then click a,b,c ...
20 To appy this change to all reference marks in the document, click Apply.
21 To select a single reference mark that you want to format, point to the left of reference mark a, hold down the mouse button and drag to the right until the reference mark is selected.
22 On the Formatting toolbar, click the Italic button.
23 To select another reference mark, point to the left of reference mark b (just above What is a Compost Pile? ), hold down the mouse button, and drag to the right until b is selected.
24 To format reference marks using the Styles and Formatting task pane, click the Format menu, and then click Styles and Formatting...
25 To select all reference marks in the document, in the Styles and Formatting task pane, click Select All.
26 To apply the Italic style to all reference marks, under Pick formatting to apply, click Footnote Reference.

Changing the Note Separator

1 To begin modifying the note separator line, in the Notes pane, click the Footnotes arrow, and then click Footnote Separator.
2 To revise the note separator line so that text appears in front of the default horizontal line, type Footnotes.
3 To switch to Print Layout view, in the bottom-left corner of the document window, click the Print Layout View button (third button from left).
4 To scroll down in the document and view the footnotes and the new note separator, click two times below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
5 To switch back to Normal view, in the bottom-left corner of the document window, click the Normal View button (first button from left).
6 To display the Notes pane, click the View menu and then click Footnotes.
7 To begin restoring the default separator line, in the Notes pane, click the Footnotes arrow, and click Footnote Separator.
8 At the top of the Notes pane, click the Reset button.

Navigating a Document

1 To insert a section break so that the Composting Dos and Don'ts section appears on a new page, click to the left of the headline COMPOSTING DOs and DON'Ts.
2 To insert a section break here, click the Insert menu, and then click Break...
3 In the Break dialog box, in the Section break types area, click Next page, and then click OK.
4 To change the appearance of this section only, click the File menu, and click Page Setup...
5 To change one of the margins for this section, in the Page Setup dialog box, click the Margins tab.
6 Notice that in the Preview section, Apply to: This section is selected. In the Margins section, click the Left up arrow three times, and then click OK.
7 To insert a bookmark to the left of COMPOSTING DOs and DON'Ts, click the Insert menu and then click Bookmark...
8 In the Bookmark dialog box, in the Bookmark name box, type DOs, and then click Add.
9 To navigate to the beginning of the document, hold down the CTRL key and then press the HOME key.
10 To begin navigating to a bookmark, click the Insert menu and then click Bookmark...
11 In the Bookmark dialog box, in the Bookmark name list notice that the document’s only bookmark, DOs, is selected, and then click Go To.
12 To delete this bookmark, in the Bookmark dialog box, click Delete.
13 To close the Bookmark dialog box, click Close.
14 To jump to a heading with the help of the Document Map, click the View menu and then click Document Map.
15 In the list of heading titles displayed in the left pane, click What Is a Compost Pile?

Managing Master Documents and Subdocuments

1 To switch to Outline view so that you can begin creating a master document, in the bottom-left corner of the document window, click the Outline View button (fourth button from left).
2 To display only the first line of each paragraph in the outline, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Show First Line Only button (first to the right of Show All Levels).
3 To select a heading and all its associated body text, click the plus (+) sign next to the heading Why Compost?
4 To scroll down to the end of the document, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
5 To select all the text between the headings Why Compost? and Compost and Soil, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the plus (+) sign next to the heading Compost and Soil.
6 To designate the selected headings as level two headings, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Demote button (the single, right-facing arrow).
7 To view changes made to the document, click once above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then click to the right of the heading Why Compost?
8 Notice that the demoted headings are now indented. To select the heading Why Compost?, and its associated body text, click the plus sign to its left.
9 To convert the selected section into to a subdocument within the master document, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Create Subdocument button (sixth from right).
10 To display the subdocument as a hyperlink, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Collapse Subdocuments button (seventh from right).
11 In response to the message asking if you want to save changes to the master document first, click OK.
12 To open a subdocument you want to modify, hold down the CTRL key, and then click the first hyperlink (for the Why Compost? heading).
13 To scroll to the end of the Why Compost subdocument, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
14 To select text that you'd like to modify within the subdocument, click to the left of the text black gold, hold down the mouse button, drag to the right until both words are selected, and then release the mouse button.
15 To make the selected text stand out, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Bold button.
16 To save changes made to the subdocument, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
17 To close the subdocument and return to the master document, in the upper-right corner of the document window, click the Close Window button.
18 To merge all the subdocuments back into the master document, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Expand Subdocuments button (seventh from right).
19 To expand the headings to show all text in the outline, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Show First Line Only button.
20 To check if the formatting change made to the Why Compost subdocument is reflected in the master document, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
