Creating and Modifying a Table of Contents
| 1 | To insert a new page that will hold your table of contents, click the Insert menu, click Break, and then in the Break dialog box, click OK. |
| 2 | To move the insertion point to the beginning of the document, click three times above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then click at the top of the document. |
| 3 | To title the new page, type Table of Contents, and then press ENTER. |
| 4 | To begin creating a table of contents, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 5 | To display the table of contents settings, in the Index and Tables dialog box, click the Table of Contents tab. |
| 6 | To change the format of the table of contents, in the General area, click the Formats arrow, and then click Distinctive. |
| 7 | To display the dashed tab leader in the preview box, click the Tab leader arrow, and then click the dashed line (third item in the list). |
| 8 | To display the Outlining toolbar below the Formatting toolbar in the document window, click the Show Outlining Toolbar button. |
| 9 | To insert the table of contents formatted as shown in the Print Preview box, in the Index and Tables dialog box, click OK. |

Marking Entries for an Index
| 1 | To navigate to page 2 of the document, in the table of contents, hold down CTRL, and click the entry Why Compost? |
| 2 | To select a word that you would like to add to the index, in the first sentence, double-click the word recycling. |
| 3 | To begin marking this word as an index entry, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 4 | In the Index and Tables dialog box, click the Mark Entry button. |
| 5 | To mark all occurrences of the word recycling in the document with index entry field codes, in the Mark Index Entry dialog box, click the Mark All button. |
| 6 | To close the Mark Index Entry dialog box, click Close. |
| 7 | To hide the formatting marks (including the field entry codes that mark index entries), on the Standard toolbar, click the Show/Hide ¶ button (third from right). |
| 8 | To move the insertion point, click after the period at the end of the second paragraph (which ends with the word material). |
| 9 | To begin marking additional index entries, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 10 | In the Index and Tables dialog box, click Mark Entry. |
| 11 | To mark another entry, in the Mark Index Entry dialog box, in the Main entry box, type compost. |
| 12 | To mark a subentry, called Creating compost, press the TAB key, and then type Creating. |
| 13 | To mark the current location of the cursor as a reference for the subentry Creating compost, click Mark. |

| 18 | To begin marking the selected word as an index entry, click the title bar of the Mark Index Entry dialog box. |
| 19 | To remove the bold formatting from the page number for this entry, in the Page number format area, click to remove the check mark from the Bold check box. |
| 20 | To mark the word recycles as a cross-reference, in the Options area, click Cross-reference. |
| 21 | To specify the main entry to which this cross-reference will refer readers, type recycling, and then click Mark. |
| 22 | To close the Mark Index Entry dialog box, click Close. |
Creating and Modifying an Index
| 1 | To insert a new page for the index at the end of this document, hold down the CTRL key, and then press ENTER. |
| 2 | To insert a title for the new page, type Index, and then press ENTER twice. |
| 3 | To select the title for formatting, double-click the word Index. |
| 4 | To format the selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Bold button, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 18. |
| 5 | To move the insertion point to line 3 on the page, press the DOWN ARROW key twice. |
| 6 | To begin inserting an index, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 7 | To select a predefined index format, in the Index and Tables dialog box, click the Formats arrow, click once below the scroll box in the list scroll bar, and then click Formal. |
| 8 | Notice the change reflected in the Print Preview box. To wrap subentry text in the index, in the Type area, click Run-in. |
| 9 | To undo this change and have subentries listed on separate lines below the main entry, in the Type area, click Indented. |
| 10 | To have the index display in a single column, click the Columns down arrow once. |
| 11 | To have page numbers display to the immediate right of each index entry, click to remove the check mark from the Right align page numbers check box. |
| 12 | To accept the format currently displayed in the preview box and insert the index in the document, click OK. |
| 13 | To scroll up in the document so that you can add an index entry you forgot to mark, click four times above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar. |
| 14 | In the heading, Compost and Soil, double-click the word Soil to select it. |
| 15 | To mark the selected word as an index entry, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 16 | In the Index and Tables dialog box, click Mark Entry. |
| 17 | To mark all occurences of the word soil for the index, in the Mark Index Entry dialog box, click Mark All, and then click Close. |
| 18 | To move to the end of the document, click four times below the scroll box on the scroll bar. |
| 19 | To hide the formatting marks again before you update the index, on the Standard toolbar, click the Show/Hide ¶ button. |
| 20 | To select the index and begin updating it, click to the left of the word ingredients, click the Insert menu, point to Reference, and then click Index and Tables. |
| 21 | Notice that the index format has reverted to default settings for the Formal format. To change the page number alignment again, click the Right align page numbers check box to remove the check mark. |
| 22 | To update the index with the new entry for soil, click OK. |
| 23 | In response to the message Do you want to replace the selected index? click OK. |
