Working with Graphics and Charts

Formatting and Resizing Graphics

1To insert the logo of The Garden Company, click the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
2In the Insert Picture dialog box, click the Logo file, and then click Insert.
3To begin formatting the picture, click the Format menu, and then click Picture.
4To begin resizing the graphic by changing its Scale attributes, in the Format Picture dialog box, click the Size tab.
5On the Size tab, in the Scale area, verify that the Lock aspect ratio check box is selected. To select the current Scale height value, in the Height box, double-click the number 100.
6To change the Scale height and resize the graphic, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you, and then click OK.
7To resize the graphic manually, click on the lower-right handle of the graphic, and drag to the indicated area.
8To begin rotating the graphic, click the Format menu, click Picture, and in the Format Picture dialog box, click the Size tab.
9To select the current Rotation value, in the Size and rotate area, double-click in the Rotation box to select 0°, and then to rotate the graphic, press SPACEBAR to have the new number typed for you, and click OK.
10To move the modified graphic, click the center of the graphic and drag to the indicated area.
11To make more changes to the graphic, click the Format menu, and then click Picture.
12To begin changing the graphic, in the Format Picture dialog box, verify that the Picture tab is selected, and in the Image control area, in the Brightness box, double-click the number 50 to select it.
13To reduce the brightness of the graphic, press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you.
14To reduce the contrast of the graphic, in the Contrast box, double-click the number 50 to select it, and press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you.
15To crop a portion of the graphic, in the Crop from area, double-click in the Top box to select 0", and press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you.
16To apply your Format Picture changes, click OK.
17To remove the crop, click the Format menu, click Picture, and on the Picture tab, double-click in the Top box to select 0.4", press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you, and click OK.
18To cut the graphic, on the Standard toolbar, click the Cut button, as indicated.
19To create a background for your worksheet, click the Format menu, point to Sheet, click Background, and in the Sheet Background dialog box, click the Logo file, and click Insert.
20To remove the background, click the Format menu, point to Sheet, and then click Delete Background.
21To paste the graphic that was previously cut, click cell E6, and on the Standard toolbar, click the Paste button, as indicated.

Creating a Chart

1To begin creating a chart based on the data in cells C1 through G13, drag from cell C1 to cell G13 and then, on the Standard toolbar, click the Chart Wizard button, as indicated.
2Notice that the Clustered Column chart type is selected by default in the Chart Wizard. To create this type of chart, click Next.
3To verify that the first row of the selected range defines the series for the chart, click the Series tab, and then click Next.
4To give a title to the chart, click the Chart title box, then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, wait as Monthly Sales is typed for you, and then press TAB.
5To define the Category (X) axis label as Month, and the Value (Y) axis label as Sales, click Next.
6To insert the chart in the active worksheet, click Finish.
7To scroll to the bottom of the chart, drag the scroll box down to the bottom of the vertical scrollbar.
8To reposition the chart below the worksheet data, point to the blank portion of the Chart Area to the left of the Month label, and drag it down to the indicated location.
9To make the chart larger, hold the pointer over the lower-right corner of the Chart Area, and when a double-headed arrow appears, drag the corner down and to the right, to the lower-right corner of cell H33.
10To begin formatting the chart, click the Format menu, and click Selected Chart Area.
11To begin customizing the border of the chart, in the Format Chart Area dialog box, on the Patterns tab, in the Border section, click the Custom option.
12To apply a thick, black border to the chart, in the Border section, click the Weight arrow, and then click the indicated border.
13To add a shadow to a border, in the Border section, click the Shadow check box to insert a checkmark.
14To begin modifying the fill effects, in the Area section, click Fill Effects.
15To apply a texture to the chart, in the Fill Effects dialog box, click the Texture tab, and then, in the Texture section, click the indicated texture in the upper-left corner, and click OK.
16To apply your formatting changes to the chart, in the Format Chart Area dialog box, click OK.

Creating a Dynamic Chart Using PivotCharts

1To add a trendline to your sales data, click the Chart menu, and then click Add Trendline.
2In the Add Trendline dialog box, notice the default options selected in the Type tab. To specify the forecast period, click the Options tab, and in the Forecast area, double-click in the Forward box to select 0.
3To enter a new value, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you, and click OK.
4Notice that the trendline is created for the month of September. To close the SalesTrend workbook, click its Close button.
5To save your changes, click Yes in the Microsoft Excel message box.
6To create a PivotChart for your sales data, on the Standard toolbar, click the Open button, double-click the Sales folder, click HourlySales, and then click Open.
7To create a PivotChart, click the PivotTable sheet tab, click cell L5, and on the PivotTable toolbar, click the Chart Wizard button, as indicated.
8Notice that a new Chart1 sheet is created. To enter a new value for cell F6, click the Limited sheet tab, and press SPACEBAR to have the number typed for you.
9To view the chart, click the Chart1 sheet tab.
10To update the chart, on the PivotTable toolbar, click the Refresh Data button, as indicated.
11Verify that the graph has changed as a result of the modified sales data. To begin creating a custom chart type, click the Chart menu and then click Chart Type.
12To add the chart to the list of user-defined chart types, in the Chart Type dialog box, click the Custom Types tab, and in the Select from area, click User-defined, and then click Add.
13To specify a name for the new chart, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you in the Name box of the Add Custom Chart Type dialog box.
14To specify a description for the new chart, click in the Description box, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you, and then click OK.
15To specify the new chart type, click the Standard Types tab, and in the Chart type area, click Area, and then click OK.
16To save your changes, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
