Communicating with Your Visitors

Automatically Updating Information

1To begin using a Web component to include a page, click the Insert menu, and then click Web Component.
2In the Insert Web Component dialog box, in the Component type list, click Included Content, in the Choose a type of content list, click Page, and then click Finish.
3To select the page to include, in the Include Page Properties dialog box, click Browse, and then double-click monthly_specials.htm.
4To finish specifying the page to include, in the Include Page Properties dialog box, click OK.
5To attempt to edit the content on this page, click anywhere on the page.
6Notice that the included content is selected as a single block and cannot be edited. To view the code for this page, at the bottom of the editing window, click the Show Code View button.
7To switch back to Design view, at the bottom of the Page view editing window, click the Show Design View button.
8To save the changes you made to the page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
9To open the host file, in the Folder List, double-click the monthly_specials.htm file.
10To change content in the host file, in the first line, double-click the word August, and then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
11To save the changes made to the host file, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
12To verify that this change is reflected on the Specials page, at the top of the Page view editing window, click the specials.htm page tab.
13To begin including a scheduled picture on a Web page, at the top of the Page view editing window, click the products.htm* page tab.
14On the Standard toolbar, click the Web Component button, as indicated.
15In the Insert Web Component dialog box, in the Component type list, click Included Content, in the Choose a type of content list, click Picture Based On Schedule, and then click Finish.
16To select a picture to display during the scheduled time, in the Scheduled Picture Properties dialog box, click the indicated Browse button.
17In the Picture dialog box, double-click the images folder, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then double-click september.bmp.
18To select a picture to display during the non-scheduled time, click in the Before and after the scheduled time (optional) box, and then press SPACEBAR to have the file path typed for you.
19To begin specifying dates for the scheduled picture, in the Starting area, click the indicated arrow, and then click Sep.
20To schedule the september.bmp file to appear for the entire month of September, click the indicated arrow, drag the scroll box to the top of the scroll bar, and then click 01.
21To insert the Scheduled Picture component on the Web page, in the Scheduled Picture Properties dialog box, click OK.
22To align the picture to the right side of the page, click the Scheduled Picture component, and then on the Standard toolbar, click the Align Right button.

Allowing for Visitor Input

1To begin creating a feedback form, in the New task pane, under New page, click More page templates.
2In the Page Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Feedback Form icon, and then click OK.
3To save the form as a page on your Web site, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
4To specify a name for the file, in the Save As dialog box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the name typed for you in the File name box.
5To change the page title, in the Save As dialog box, click Change title.
6To specify a new page title, in the Set Page Title dialog box, press SPACEBAR to have the title typed in the Page title box, and then click OK.
7To finish saving the feedback form as a Web page, in the Save As dialog box, click Save.
8To switch back to Navigation view, at the top of the Page view editing window, click the Web Site tab.
9To include the feedback page at the same level as the home page, in the Folder List, drag the feedback.htm file to the Navigation view window, to just above the Welcome page, as indicated.
10To begin personalizing the feedback form, at the top of the Navigation view window, click the feedback.htm page tab.
11To modify a drop-down list, click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then double-click the indicated drop-down box.
12To add a choice to the drop-down list, in the Drop-Down Box Properties dialog box, click Add.
13In the Add Choice dialog box, press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you in the Choice box.
14To finish adding the choice, under Initial state, click Selected, and then click OK.
15To move the choice you just added to the top of the list, in the Drop-Down Box Properties dialog box, click Choose one, and then click Move Up.
16To disallow form submission when the Choose one choice is selected, click Validate.
17In the Drop-Down Box Validation dialog box, select the Disallow first choice check box, click OK, and then to close the Drop-Down Box Properties dialog box, click OK.
18To preview the page and test the drop-down list, click the Show Preview View button, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click the indicated arrow, and then click Employee.
19To begin creating a feedback confirmation page, click the File menu, and then click New.
20In the New task pane, under New page, click More page templates.
21In the Page Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Confirmation Form icon, and then click OK.
22To save the confirmation page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
23To finish saving the confirmation page, in the Save As dialog box, click Save.
24To switch back to Navigation view, at the top of the Page view editing window, click the Web Site tab.
25To include the confirmation page at the same level as the feedback page, in the Folder List, drag the confirmation.htm file to the Navigation view window, to above the Feedback page, as indicated.
26To view the results, at the top of the Navigation view window, click the confirmation.htm page tab, and then click the Show Preview View button.

Adding Ways to Find Information

1To begin using a page template to create a freestanding FAQ page, in the New task pane, under New page, click More page templates.
2In the Page Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Frequently Asked Questions icon, as indicated, and then click OK.
3To save the FAQ page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
4To finish saving the FAQ page, in the Save As dialog box, click Save.
5To switch back to Navigation view, at the top of the Page view editing window, click the Web Site tab.
6To include the FAQ page as a child page of the Search page, in the Folder List, drag the faq.htm file to the Navigation view window, to the right of the Search Page, as indicated.
7To preview the page, at the top of the Navigation view window, click the faq.htm page tab, and then click the Show Preview View button.
8To switch back to Design view, at the bottom of the Page view editing window, click the Show Design View button.
9To begin customizing the text in the template, in the Page view editing window, click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then under the Table of Contents heading, double-click the first question to select it.
10To replace the selected question, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the new question typed for you.
11To switch to Split view and replace the bookmarked answer, click the Show Split View button.
12In the Code pane, drag the scroll box almost halfway down the scroll bar, until you see the What can I do about verticillium wilt? text.
13In the Code pane, drag to select the What can I do about verticillium wilt? text, and then on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy button.
14To replace the question in the linked answer, in the Code pane, click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, drag to select the indicated text, and then on the Standard toolbar, click the Paste button.
15To replace the bookmark text appearing in the answer, drag to select the word how, as indicated, and then press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
16To replace the corresponding bookmark text in the question, in the Code pane, click above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, drag to select the word how, and then press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
17To save the changes made in the Code pane, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
18To specify the answer to the question, in the Design pane, click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, drag to select the indicated placeholder text, and then press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
19To test the link to the bookmark, at the bottom of the editing window, click the Show Preview View button, and then in the Preview pane, click the What can I do about verticillium wilt? question.
20To begin creating a freestanding Search page, click the File menu, and then click New.
21In the New task pane, under New page, click More page templates.
22In the Page Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Search Page icon, and then click OK.
23To save the file, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
24To replace the existing Search page in the Web site's navigational structure, in the Save As dialog box, in the list of files, click search, and then click Save.
25In response to the Microsoft Office FrontPage message that appears, asking whether you want to replace the existing file, click Yes.
26To refresh the Page title and link bar, click the View menu, and then click Refresh.
