Creating a Web Site to Support Team Projects

Using a Web Site to Track a Project

1To begin using a template to create a project-management Web site, in the New task pane, under New Web site, click More Web site templates.
2In the Web Site Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Project Web Site icon, and to specify the location of the new Web site, under Options, click Browse.
3In the New Web Site Location dialog box, on the Places bar, click My Documents, and then in the folder list, double-click My Web Sites.
4To create a new folder for the Web site, in the New Web Site Location dialog box, click the Create New Folder button.
5To specify a folder name, in the New Folder dialog box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the name typed for you in the Name box, and then click OK.
6To create the Web site in this folder, in the New Web Site Location dialog box, click Open, and then in the Web Site Templates dialog box, click OK.
7Notice the extensive list of files that FrontPage creates for this type of Web site. To view the files at the bottom of the list, on the Web Site tab, click below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
8To view the structure of the project-management Web site, at the bottom of the Web Site tab, click the Navigation View button.
9To display the Web site in an external browser, on the Standard toolbar, click the Preview in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 button.
10To browse through the site, in the browser window, under Project Abstract, click the refer to my schedule link.
11To close the browser window and return to FrontPage, on the title bar of the Schedule – Microsoft Internet Explorer window, click the Close button.
12To begin customizing the look of the Web site, click the Format menu, and then click Theme.
13In the Theme task pane, under Recently used themes, place the mouse pointer over the Nature theme preview, click the arrow that appears, and then click Apply as default theme.
14In response to the warning that appears in the Microsoft FrontPage 2003 message box, click Yes.
15To view the results of your change, on the Standard toolbar, click the Preview in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 button.

Using a Web Site to Discuss a Topic

1To begin using a template to create a new discussion Web site, in the New task pane, under New Web site, click More Web site templates.
2In the Web Site Templates dialog box, on the General tab, click the Discussion Web Site Wizard icon, as indicated, and to specify the location of the new Web site, under Options, click Browse.
3In the New Web Site Location dialog box, on the Places bar, click My Documents, and then in the folder list, double-click My Web Sites.
4To create a new folder for the Web site, in the New Web Site Location dialog box, click the Create New Folder button.
5To specify a folder name, in the New Folder dialog box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the name typed for you in the Name box, and then click OK.
6To create the Web site in this folder, in the New Web Site Location dialog box, click Open, and then in the Web Site Templates dialog box, click OK.
7To begin using the Discussion Web Site Wizard to configure the Web site, on the first page of the wizard, read the instructions, and then click Next.
8To accept all the main features for your discussion, verify that all the check boxes are selected, and then click Next.
9To specify a title for your discussion, double-click the text in the Enter a descriptive title for this discussion box, and then press SPACEBAR to have the title typed for you.
10To specify a folder name to store articles posted to the discussion, triple-click in the Enter the name for the discussion folder box, press SPACEBAR to have the name typed for you, and then click Next.
11To select a set of input fields for the discussion’s Submission Form, click Subject, Category, Comments, and then click Next.
12To enable every visitor to post articles to your discussion forum, verify that No, anyone can post articles is selected, and then click Next.
13To make the most recently posted articles appear first, click Newest to oldest, and then click Next.
14To accept the Table of Contents page as the home page of the discussion Web site, verify that Yes is selected, and then click Next.
15To specify the kind of data to be reported by the Search Form for a search query, click Subject, Size, Date, Score, and then click Next.
16To accept the default Frame Options setting of Dual interface – use frames if available, or normal pages if not and proceed to the next page of the wizard, click Next.
17To finish creating the site based on the information you provided, on the last page of the Discussion Web Site Wizard, click Finish.
18To display the discussion Web site's home page, in the Folder List, double-click the index.htm file.

Maintaining the Security of Web Site Files

1To begin turning on source control, click the Tools menu, and then click Site Settings.
2To enable source control, in the Site Settings dialog box, on the General tab, select the Use document check-in and check-out check box, and then click OK.
3In response to the Microsoft Office FrontPage message box that appears, informing you that there will be a delay while FrontPage recalculates the Web site, click Yes.
4To check out a file, in the Folder List, click the products.htm file, click the Edit menu, and then click Check Out.
5Notice that a green check mark appears to the left of the products.htm file. To make changes in the checked out file, in the Folder List, double-click the products.htm file.
6In the Page view editing window, drag to select the Gifts and gadgets! link, and then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have new text typed for you.
7To save the changes you made in the checked out file, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
8To close the products.htm file, in the Page view editing window, click the Close button.
9To check in the revised file, in the Folder List, click the products.htm file, click the Edit menu, and then click Check In.
