Assigning Initial Resources to Tasks

1To begin assigning resources, in the Resources pane, click the Assign people and equipment to tasks link.
2To assign resources to the Develop script task, in the Assign Resources pane, click the Assign resources link, and then, in the Gantt Chart view, in the Task Name column, click Develop script.
3To assign a resource to the selected task, in the Assign Resources dialog box, in the Resource Name column, click Garrett R. Vargas, and then click Assign.
4To view scheduling information about the assigned task, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar of the Assign Resources pane and look under 4) Review Information.
5To begin assigning another task, in the Task Name column, click Develop production boards.
6To assign two resources simultaneously to the selected task, in the Assign Resources dialog box, notice that Garrett R. Vargas is already selected, hold down the CTRL key, and click Punya Palit.
7To assign the two selected resources to the task, click Assign.
8Notice that a check mark now appears to the left of the assigned resources. To begin assigning resources to the next task, in the Task Name column, click Pick locations.
9To assign a resource to the selected task, in the Assign Resources dialog box, click below the scroll box in the list scroll bar, click Syed Abbas, and then click Assign.
10To make resource assignments for another task, in the Task Name column, click Hold auditions.
11To select multiple resources for assignment to a task, notice that Syed Abbas is already selected in the Assign Resources dialog box, hold down the CTRL key, and click Yoichiro Okada.
12To assign the selected resources, click Assign.
13To close the Assign Resources dialog box, click Close.

Assigning Additional Resources to a Task

1To view the work values assigned to a resource, in the Task Name column of the Gantt Chart view, click Develop script.
2To see information about the resource assignment, in the Assign Resources pane, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and look under 4) Review Information.
3To assign an additional resource and distribute the work, on the Standard toolbar, click the indicated Assign Resources button.
4To continue, in the Assign Resources dialog box, in the Resource Name column, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click Syed Abbas, and then click Assign.
5To edit another task assignment, in the Gantt Chart view, under Task Name, click Pick locations.
6To assign an additional resource and reduce Abbas’ task duration, in the Assign Resources dialog box, click Punya Palit, and then click Assign.
7To see how Project redistributes the task duration among resources, in the Gantt Chart view, click the Leveling Indicator button to the left of the Pick locations task.
8To accept the default option to Reduce duration so the task ends sooner, but requires the same amount of work (person-hours), click the Leveling Indicator button again.
9To begin working with another task, in the Gantt Chart view, under Task Name, click Hold auditions.
10To view information about the selected task, in the Gantt Chart view, double-click Hold auditions.
11On the General tab of the Task Information dialog box, notice that the duration for the task is 2 days (2d). To close the dialog box, click OK.
12To select two additional resources, in the Assign Resources dialog box, notice that Punya Palit is selected, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar, hold down the CTRL key, and click Sjaak Goossen.
13To assign the selected resources, click Assign.
14To change how Project schedules the work on the revised task assignment, in the Gantt Chart view, click the Leveling Indicator button to the left of Hold auditions.
15To change the way Project adjusts the task’s duration, in the Leveling Indicator list, click Increase total work because the task requires more person-hours. Keep duration constant.
16To view the change in the task’s duration, in the Gantt Chart view, double-click Hold auditions.
17Notice that the duration is now 2 days (2d). To close the two open dialog boxes, in the Task Information dialog box, click OK, and in the Assign Resources dialog box, click Close.
18To disable effort-driven scheduling for all new tasks, click the Tools menu, and click Options.
19To finish disabling effort-driven scheduling for new tasks, in the Options dialog box, click the Schedule tab, click the New tasks are effort driven check box to clear it, and click OK.
20To select a task and view its information, in the Gantt Chart view, under Task Name, double-click Pick locations.
21To control effort-driven scheduling for the selected task only, in the Task Information dialog box, click the Advanced tab, and click the indicated Effort driven check box to clear it.
22To save your changes and close the Task Information dialog box, click OK.

Assigning Material Resources to a Task

1To begin assigning a material resource to a task, on the Standard toolbar, click the indicated Assign Resources button.
2To view the duration of the task to which the material resource is assigned, in the Gantt Chart view, in the Task Name column, double-click Pick locations.
3Notice that the duration is specified in the Task Information dialog box as 1 day (1d). To close the Task Information dialog box, click OK.
4To view the rest of the available resources, in the Assign Resources dialog box, in the Resource Name list, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar to display Video Tape.
5To enter the quantity of consumption for Video Tape, click in the Units field for that resource in the Assign Resources dialog box, and then, on the Up arrow, click until 4 30-min displays.
6To finish assigning the selected material resource to the task, click Assign.
7To view changes in the duration of the task, double-click Pick locations.
8Notice that the duration has not changed, and is still specified as 1 day (1d). To close both of the open dialog boxes, click OK, and then in the Assign Resources dialog box, click Close.
