Creating a Chart

1To begin creating a chart based on the data in cells C1 through G13, drag from cell C1 to cell G13 and then, on the Standard toolbar, click the Chart Wizard button, as indicated.
2Notice that the Clustered Column chart type is selected by default in the Chart Wizard. To create this type of chart, click Next.
3To verify that the first row of the selected range defines the series for the chart, click the Series tab, and then click Next.
4To give a title to the chart, click the Chart title box, then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, wait as Monthly Sales is typed for you, and then press TAB.
5To define the Category (X) axis label as Month, and the Value (Y) axis label as Sales, click Next.
6To insert the chart in the active worksheet, click Finish.
7To scroll to the bottom of the chart, drag the scroll box down to the bottom of the vertical scrollbar.
8To reposition the chart below the worksheet data, point to the blank portion of the Chart Area to the left of the Month label, and drag it down to the indicated location.
9To make the chart larger, hold the pointer over the lower-right corner of the Chart Area, and when a double-headed arrow appears, drag the corner down and to the right, to the lower-right corner of cell H33.
10To begin formatting the chart, click the Format menu, and click Selected Chart Area.
11To begin customizing the border of the chart, in the Format Chart Area dialog box, on the Patterns tab, in the Border section, click the Custom option.
12To apply a thick, black border to the chart, in the Border section, click the Weight arrow, and then click the indicated border.
13To add a shadow to a border, in the Border section, click the Shadow check box to insert a checkmark.
14To begin modifying the fill effects, in the Area section, click Fill Effects.
15To apply a texture to the chart, in the Fill Effects dialog box, click the Texture tab, and then, in the Texture section, click the indicated texture in the upper-left corner, and click OK.
16To apply your formatting changes to the chart, in the Format Chart Area dialog box, click OK.

Customizing Chart Labels and Numbers

1To begin creating a chart based on selected worksheet data, drag from cell C1 to cell G13, and on the Standard toolbar, click the Chart Wizard button.
2To select a Line chart type with markers, in the Chart Wizard, in the Chart type box, click Line, and then click Next.
3Notice that cells C1 through cell G13 are shown as the data range for the chart. To continue without making changes to the data range, click Next.
4To give a title to a chart, on the Titles tab, click the Chart title box, and then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, wait as Sales by Month is typed for you, and then press TAB.
5To define the Category (X) axis label as Month, press SPACEBAR, and the text will be typed for you in the selected field.
6To accept the chart title and the labels for the X and Y axes, click Next.
7To insert the chart in the active worksheet, click Finish.
8To scroll down to below the worksheet data, drag the scroll box down to the bottom of the vertical scroll bar.
9To change the chart location, point to the Chart Area to the left of the Month label, and drag the chart down to the indicated location.
10To begin formatting the chart title, double-click the Sales by Month title.
11To view the font options for the chart title, in the Format Chart Title dialog box, click the Font tab.
12To increase the size of the chart title's font, in the Size list, click the Down scroll arrow, click 14, and then click OK.
13To format an axis of the chart, double-click the Value axis area of the chart, to the right of the word Sales.
14To view the options for formatting the numbers of a chart axis, in the Format Axis dialog box, click the Number tab.
15To change the number of decimal places displayed in the axis, click the Down arrow for the Decimal places box two times, and then click OK.

Creating Diagrams

1To begin inserting a diagram into the active worksheet, click the Insert menu, and click Diagram.
2To select Organization Chart as the type of diagram, in the Diagram Gallery dialog box, notice that Organization Chart is already selected by default as the diagram type, so click OK.
3To define the top level hierarchy in the organizationchart, click the top shape, and then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, and Owner will be typed for you.
4To define the second level of hierarchy, click the shape on the lower left, press SPACEBAR, and Product Manager will be typed for you.
5To insert a third level of shapes, click the Product Manager shape, and then on the Organization Chart toolbar, click the Insert Shape arrow, and click Subordinate.
6To specify the Product Manager's area of operation, click the shape below the Product Manager shape, press SPACEBAR, and Warehouse will be typed for you.
7To change the layout of the top two levels of the organization chart, click the bottom edge of the Owner shape, and then, on the Organization Chart toolbar, click the Layout arrow and click Right Hanging.
8To change the layout of the third level of shapes, click the bottom edge of the Product Manager shape, and then, on the Organization Chart toolbar, click the Layout arrow and click Right Hanging.
9To begin formatting the top level shape, click the bottom edge of the Owner shape to select it.
10To modify the font of the text in the selected shape, click the Format menu, and click AutoShape.
11To format the text in the top shape as bold, in the Format AutoShape dialog box, in the Font style list, click Bold, and then click OK.
