Working with Shapes

Drawing and Modifying Shapes

1To begin selecting the AutoShape that you want to draw on the current slide, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Block Arrows, and then click the Right Arrow button, as indicated.
2To draw an arrow, point to the right of the top of the green bar, hold down the SHIFT key, and drag to the right until the point of the arrow aligns with the last s in Classes.
3To change the size of the AutoShape, drag the arrow's right-middle handle to the left until the arrow is about the width of Available.
4To create a copy of the AutoShape, on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy button, and then click the Paste button.
5To move the copy of the AutoShape, drag the new arrow to about the middle of the slide, and align the two shapes.
6To create a third arrow and simultaneously move it, point to the second arrow, hold down the CTRL key, and drag until the point of the new arrow aligns with the end of the green line above.
7To deselect the arrow, click the indicated blank area of the slide.
8To draw a selection box around all of the arrows so that you can copy them as a unit, point above and to the left of the first arrow, and drag down and to the right of the third arrow.
9To copy the selected arrows, on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy button.
10To paste the copied set of arrows into the slide, in the Clipboard task pane, click the item with the three arrows.
11To move the copied set of arrows, point to one of the selected arrows, and drag the set down and slightly to the right.
12To remove the items from the Office Clipboard and then close the task pane, in the Clipboard task pane, click Clear All, and then click the task pane's Close button.
13To select all of the arrows, hold down the SHIFT key, and click each of the three top arrows.
14To change the arrows to a different shape, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Change AutoShape, point to Stars and Banners, and click the indicated Horizontal Scroll button.
15To deselect all of the shapes, click the indicated blank area of the slide.
16To type text in the shapes, click the upper-left scroll, and then for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
17To move to a slide containing an existing shape that you want to modify, in the Slides pane, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and click Slide 9.
18To start modifying the attributes of the shape, click one of the rays of the sun, and on the Drawing toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and click Fill Effects.
19To fill the shapes with a texture, in the Fill Effects dialog box, click the Texture tab, click the Blue tissue paper texture, as indicated, and click OK.
20To change the color of the line around the shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Line Color arrow, and click the indicated color box.
21To apply a shadow to the shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow Style button, as indicated, and then click the indicated style in the drop-down palette.
22To change the color of the text in the shape, drag across the text to select it, and then on the Drawing toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and click the Green color box.
23To change the font of the text in the shape, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, and click Arial.
24To apply all of the formatting changes to a different shape, on the Standard toolbar, click the Format Painter button, as indicated, and then click the lightning bolt shape.

Aligning and Connecting Shapes

1To select all three rectangles, point above and to the left of the left shape, and drag below and to the right of the right shape.
2To align the shapes vertically, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Align or Distribute, and then click Align Center.
3To display a fixed grid on the slide, click the View menu, click Grid and Guides, and in the Grid and Guides dialog box, click to insert a check mark in the Display grid on screen check box.
4To display movable guides on the slide, in the Grid and Guides dialog box, click to insert a check mark in the Display drawing guides on screen check box, and click OK.
5To use the grid to precisely position the shapes, point to the selection box around the shapes, hold down the SHIFT key, and drag to the left until the left edge touches the leftmost gridline.
6To move the vertical guide so that is aligned with a precise point on the slide, point to the vertical guide, and drag it to the left until it is aligned with the P in Preparing.
7To align the shapes to the guide, point to the dotted selection box, hold down the SHIFT key, and drag the selection to the left until its left edge touches the vertical guide.
8To move the horizontal guide, point to the horizontal guide, and drag it downward until it is aligned with the bottom of the Research your topic shape.
9To create another horizontal guide, point to the horizontal guide, hold down the CTRL key, and drag it downward until it is aligned with the bottom of the Gather your supplies shape.
10To position the middle shape using the grid and guides, click the shape, click its border to select the entire object, point to its border, hold down SHIFT, and drag it to the middle of the slide.
11To position the bottom shape, select it, and drag it to the right side of the slide.
12To turn off the grid and guides, click the View menu, click Grid and Guides, click to clear the Display grid on screen and Display drawing guides on screen check boxes, and click OK.
13To select the type of line that you want to use to connect the shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Connectors, and then click the indicated connector.
14To connect the top shape and the middle shape, point to the top shape, click its outer right connection point, move over the middle shape, and click its outer left connection point.
15To start joining the middle and bottom shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Connectors, and then click the same connector you used previously.
16To finish the join, point to the middle shape, click its outer right connection point, move over the bottom shape, and click its outer left connection point.
17To change the style of both lines, hold down SHIFT, click the top line, and on the Drawing toolbar, click the Dash Style button, as indicated, and then click the indicated Round Dot line style.
18To change the thickness of the line, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Line Style button, as indicated, and then click the 3 pt line style.

Stacking and Grouping Shapes

1To change the stacking order of the shapes, click the middle rectangle, and on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Order, and then click Send to Back.
2To change the stacking order again, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Order, and click Bring to Front.
3To restore the original stacking order, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Order, and click Send Backward.
4To start grouping all three shapes, point above and to the left of the left shape, and drag below and to the right of the right shape, and on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, and then click Group.
5To select one shape for formatting without deselecting the entire group, click the blank area below the text in the top rectangle.
6To change the color of the selected shape, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and then click the Orange color box, as indicated.
7To move the grouped shapes, point to the middle rectangle, and when the pointer changes to a four-headed arrow, drag to the right and down about a quarter inch.
8To make all the shapes in the group smaller, point to the grouped object's lower-right handle, and drag to the left and up approximately a half inch.
9To ungroup the shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, click Ungroup, and then click the blank area to the right of the slide title.
10To regroup the shapes, click the blank area below the text in the middle rectangle, and on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, and then click Regroup.
