Editing Documents

1To make a change to the first line, double-click the word Early to select it, press the DELETE key, and then press the END key.
2To type the words Has Arrived!, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the words typed for you.
3To select the first sentence of the first paragraph, hold down the CTRL key, click anywhere in the first sentence, and then release the CTRL key.
4To delete the selected sentence, press the DELETE key.
5To undo the last action and restore the deleted text, on the Standard toolbar, click the Undo button, as indicated.
6To select a whole line of text, click once below the scroll box in the vertical scroll bar, point to the left of the Happy Gardening! line, and click once.
7To copy the selected text to the Office Clipboard, on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy button, as indicated.
8To move the insertion point to the beginning of the document, hold down the CTRL key, press the HOME key, and then release the CTRL key.
9To paste the text that you just copied, on the Standard toolbar, click the Paste button, as indicated.
10To select the new line of text to move it to another location in the document, point to the left of the line, hold down the mouse button, and drag across it from left to right.
11To cut the selected line of text, on the Standard toolbar, click the Cut button, as indicated.
12To view the available Clipboard options, near the bottom of the Clipboard task pane, click Options, and notice the ways in which you can control the Clipboard.
13To close the Clipboard Options menu, click anywhere in the document to the left of the menu.
14To move the insertion point to the end of the document, hold down the CTRL key, press the END key, and then release the CTRL key.
15To add two new paragraphs at the end of the document, press ENTER twice.
16To paste text stored in the Office Clipboard, in the Clipboard task pane, click the Happy Gardening! item.
17To close the Clipboard task pane, click the indicated Close button.
18To select the paragraph that begins with The Garden Company welcomes, click the vertical scroll bar's up arrow four times, and then triple-click anywhere in the paragraph.
19To move the selected paragraph, drag it to the empty line above Happy Gardening!.

Using Text-Entry Shortcuts

1To change the built-in AutoCorrect settings, click the Tools menu, and then click AutoCorrect Options.
2To prevent Word from capitalizing all words that follow a period, clear the Capitalize first letter of sentences check box.
3To type an abbreviation that you want AutoCorrect to replace, first click the Replace text box.
4To type the letters gc in the Replace box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you, and then press the TAB key.
5To type the words The Garden Company in the With box, press SPACEBAR to have the words typed for you.
6To add the entry to the correction list, click Add.
7To close the AutoCorrect dialog box, click OK.
8To move the insertion point to the end of the document, hold down the CTRL key and press the END key.
9To begin a new paragraph, press ENTER.
10To type the abbreviation gc, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you, and then to initiate the AutoCorrect, press SPACEBAR again to insert the full phrase in the document.
11To start a new paragraph, press ENTER.
12To insert Respectfully as the closing text, click the Insert menu, point to AutoText, point to Closing, and then click Respectfully,.
13To leave space for a signature, press ENTER four times.
14To create an AutoText entry, click the Insert menu, point to AutoText, and then click AutoText.
15To type Karen Berg in the Enter AutoText entries here text box, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
16To add the AutoText entry to the list, click Add, and then click OK.
17To type the beginning of a text entry in the document, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
18To insert the name that appears in the ScreenTip, press ENTER.
19To move the insertion point to the top of the document, hold down the CTRL key and press the HOME key.
20To insert today's date at the insertion point, click the Insert menu, click Date and Time, and in the Date and Time dialog box, click June 15, 2004, and then click OK.
21To look at the Smart Tag options for dates, point to the date, click the Smart Tag Actions button, and then click Smart Tag Options on the menu.
22To close the AutoCorrect dialog box, click OK.

Finding and Replacing Text

1To begin the process of locating the error, click the Edit menu, and then click Find.
2To type the text Garden Map Kit in the Find what text box on the Find and Replace dialog box, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
3To find and select all instances of the term Garden Map Kit, select the Highlight all items found in check box, and click the Find All button.
4To clear the selection and place the insertion point at the top of the document, first click the main document window in the area below the Find and Replace dialog box, as indicated, and then hold down the CTRL key and press the HOME key.
5To replace the text from the previous search, click the Replace tab of the Find and Replace dialog box, and then click the Replace with text box.
6To type the text Interactive Garden in the Replace with text box, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
7To find the first instance of Garden Map Kit and replace it with Interactive Garden, click Find Next, and then click Replace.
8To replace all remaining instances of Garden Map Kit, click Replace All.
9To close the message box that tells you that 9 replacements were made, click OK.

Using an Outline to Rearrange Paragraphs

1To examine the document in Outline view and display the Outlining toolbar, click the Outline View button in the lower-left corner of the window, as indicated.
2To collapse the document and only show level 1 headings, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Show Level arrow, as indicated, and click Show Level 1 in the list.
3To demote the Hot or Cold? heading from level 1 to level 2, click the heading, and on the Outlining toolbar, click the Demote button, as indicated.
4To move the Composting DOs and DON'Ts heading up, click the heading, and on the Outlining toolbar, click the Move Up button once, as indicated.
5To see the section you just moved in its new location, click the Show Level arrow, and then click Show All Levels.
6To promote Hot or Cold? back to level 1, click the Show Level arrow and click Show Level 2, click the Hot or Cold? heading, and on the Outlining toolbar, click the Promote button, as indicated.
7To display the paragraph associated with the Hot or Cold? heading, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Expand button, as indicated.
8To view the effects of your reorganization, click the View menu, click Print Layout, and press the PAGE DOWN key twice.

Checking Spelling and Grammar

1To correct the spelling of the first word with a red wavy underline in the first paragraph, double-click the word bot to select it.
2To view a list of proposed alternative spellings, on the Standard toolbar, click the Spelling and Grammar button, as indicated.
3To correct the misspelling and remove the red wavy underline, under Suggestions in the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, double-click both.
4To close the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, click the Close button.
5To place the insertion point at the top of the document, hold down the CTRL key and press the HOME key.
6To begin checking the spelling and grammar of the entire document, on the Standard toolbar, click the Spelling and Grammar button.
7To correct the misspelling envrionmentally and add this misspelling to the AutoCorrect list, click AutoCorrect.
8To replace all instances of the misspelled word harty with the correctly spelled hearty, click Change All.
9To add the Latin word crassula to the custom dictionary, click Add to Dictionary.
10To correct the grammar error, in the Fragment box, click to the left of the word available, and for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the word are typed for you.
11In the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, click Change.
12To close the message box that indicates the checking process is finished, click OK.

Researching Information

1To select a word you want to look up in the thesaurus, in the first paragraph, double-click the word important.
2To access the thesaurus in the Research task pane, click the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Thesaurus.
3To collapse the list of synonyms, in the Research task pane, click the minus sign to the left of the word significant.
4To expand the list of synonyms, in the Research task pane, click the plus sign to the left of the word significant.
5To replace the word important with the word significant, point to the second instance of the word significant, as indicated, click the down arrow that appears to its right, and then click Insert on the drop-down menu.
6To save the document before beginning research tasks, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
7To type a topic to search for, double-click the word important in the Search for text box, and for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the topic acid rain pH typed for you.
8To select one of the available research services and perform a search, click the down arrow to the right of the second text box, as indicated, and then click MSN Search to retrieve and display search results.
