Taking and Formatting Notes

Creating a Structure for Storing Notes

1To open a folder, click the Garden Company folder tab.
2To create a new folder within the Garden Company folder, click the Insert menu, and then click New Folder.
3To name the folder, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the folder name typed for you.
4To complete the naming of the folder, press ENTER.
5To open the new folder, click the Garden Expo Notes tab.
6To create a section in the Garden Expo Notes folder, on the Standard toolbar, click the indicated New Section button.
7To name the section, press SPACEBAR to have the text of the name typed for you.
8To complete the naming of the section, press ENTER.
9To add a title to this page, click the Title area and then press SPACEBAR to have the page title typed for you.
10To complete the naming of the page, press ENTER.
11To add another page to the section, click the indicated New Page tab.
12To name the new page, press SPACEBAR to have the page title typed for you in the Title area.
13To complete the naming of the page, press ENTER.
14To create a subpage, click the Vendors page tab, and then click the indicated New Subpage tab.

Adding Notes

1To enter a note, in the note container where the insertion point is blinking, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the note text typed for you.
2To create another line below the first one in the same note, press ENTER, and then press SPACEBAR to have additional text typed for you.
3To finish this note and create another note container to its right, move the pointer to the right side of the page as indicated, and then click the page.
4To enter another note, press SPACEBAR to have the note's text typed for you.
5To finish this note and create another note container, click the indicated area of the page.
6To enter text in the active note container, press SPACEBAR to have the note's text typed for you.
7To finish this note, click an empty area of the page below the active note.
8To move a note, point to the title bar of the note on the right, and when the move pointer appears, drag the note down and to the left, allowing the page to scroll left, and drop it just below the first note.
9To combine two notes, point to the title bar of the note on the right, and when the move pointer appears, drag it to the first note, to just below the text Get finalized list of vendors from Kim.

Formatting Notes and Correcting Spelling

1To make text bold, drag from left to right across July 5. in the first note, and then on the Standard toolbar, click the Bold button.
2To italicize text, drag from left to right across equipment order form in the third note, and on the Standard toolbar, click the Italic button.
3To change the font color, double-click Kim in the second note, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and then click the indicated Blue box.
4To highlight text, double-click 25 in the second note, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Highlight arrow, and then click the Bright Green box (2nd box in top row).
5To change the font of part of a note to make it stand out, drag from left to right across Need at least 25. to select it.
6To change the font of the selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, click below the scroll box in the scroll bar of the font list, and then click Wide Latin.
7To change the font size of the selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 12.
8To add a note about a presenter, click the Presenters page tab, and note that the cursor is in the empty note container under the page header.
9To add note text in this note container, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the note text typed for you.
10To correct the spelling of the name Cisco, double-click the word Cysco, and then press SPACEBAR, and the correct spelling will be typed for you.
11To have OneNote correct the spelling of this word automatically whenever you repeat this typographical error, click the Tools menu, and then click AutoCorrect Options.
12To enter the text you consistently mistype, in the AutoCorrect dialog box, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you in the Replace box.
13To enter the text that you want to replace the misspelling, click the With box, and then press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
14To complete the AutoCorrect entry, in the AutoCorrect dialog box, click OK.
15To create another note about the same presenter, move the mouse pointer to the right of the first note, and then click the page as indicated, to create a new note container.
16To enter note text and see your spelling corrected automatically, press SPACEBAR, and the text will be typed for you.
17To view your AutoCorrect options for the word Cisco, click the AutoCorrect SmartTag.

Inserting Special Content

1To add a note about rotating the podium, click in the indicated area below the first note.
2To add text here, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR and the note text will be typed for you.
3To view a list of special characters and symbols that you can insert, click the Insert menu, and then click Symbol.
4To insert the degree symbol, in the Symbol dialog box, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click the indicated º symbol, click Insert, and then click Close.
5To insert a date-and-time stamp at the bottom of the active note, press ENTER to move to the next line in the note, and then on the Standard toolbar, click the Date and Time button, as indicated.

Creating Notes with a Mouse or Stylus

1To change the pen tool, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pen arrow (fifth from the right), and then click the Black (thick) felt tip pen.
2To add a rock to the garden plan, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR and a circle will be drawn for you using the pen tool.
3To turn off the pen so that you can add a label to the drawing, on the Standard toolbar, click the indicated Type/Selection Tool button, click below the word Water in the note on the left, and then press ENTER.
4To label the rock, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the label text typed for you.
5To switch to the pen tool so that you can draw an arrow, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pen arrow, and then click Black (thin).
6To draw an arrow from the label to the rock, press SPACEBAR, and wait as an arrow is drawn for you.
7To make a change to a note from your Pocket PC, double-click the word short in the fourth line, and press the DELETE key.
8To highlight some handwritten note text, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pen arrow, click the Yellow highlighter, and drag across heterolepsis.
9To turn off the highlighter, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pen button, and then click the title bar of the page to see the results.
