Working with Shapes and Diagrams

Adding Text to Shapes and the Drawing Page

1To add an arrow shape to indicate an entrance to the auditorium, drag the 2-D single arrow shape from the Blocks stencil to the indicated area on the drawing page.
2To add text to the selected arrow shape, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR, and text will be typed for you.
3To cancel the selection of the text block, click the upper-left corner of the drawing page.
4To add text to the top orange rectangle (left of the Registration Area text), click the rectangle, and then press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
5To move to the next line so that you can add more text, press ENTER.
6To add a second line of text to the selected shape, press SPACEBAR to have text typed for you.
7To cancel the selection of the text block, click the blank area of the drawing page to the left of the auditorium shape.
8To close the Pan & Zoom window, click the Close button on the Pan & Zoom title bar.
9To add another exhibit area to the layout, drag the Box shape from the Blocks stencil to the indicated location on the drawing page.
10To label the selected box shape, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
11To make the text larger in the new label, which is still selected, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 12 pt.
12To edit the text in another shape, on the Standard toolbar, click the Text Tool button, as indicated.
13To edit the text in the Bonsai Displays shape, click just to the left of the letter D in Displays, and then press SPACEBAR to have the new text typed for you.
14To create a new text block to indicate the parking lot, click the Up scroll arrow once, and then double-click in the indicated area.
15To add text to the text block, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
16To increase the size of the text, on the Standard toolbar, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 24 pt.
17To change the color of the text, on the Standard toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and then click the Gold box, as indicated.
18To cancel the selection of the text block, press the ESC key.

Moving, Sizing, Rotating, and Copying Shapes

1To move a shape, drag the Perennials, Bulbs, and Tubers shape to the indicated area on the right.
2To select two shapes so that you can move them together, click the Last name A-M shape, hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the Last name N-Z shape.
3To move both of the selected rectangles, drag the selection downward to the indicated area, and then click the blank area of the drawing page to the left of the rectangles.
4To resize a shape to make room for its label, click the Bonsai Demonstrations and Displays shape, point to the right middle selection handle, and drag it to the indicated area on the right.
5To copy a shape so that you can use it again elsewhere in the drawing, click the bottom Enter auditorium arrow shape, and then hold down the CTRL key while you drag the shape to the indicated area.
6To rotate the selected arrow so that it points to the classrooms, drag its rotation handle using a circular motion to the right and down, until the shape rotates 90 degrees clockwise.
7To change the text of the selected arrow, on the Standard toolbar, click the Text Tool button, and then, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the text typed for you.
8To cancel the selection of the text block and the shape, press the ESC key twice.
9To add an arrow that points from Parking to Entrance, click the Up scroll arrow twice, and then, from the Blocks stencil, drag the Curved arrow shape to the right of the Parking text block as indicated.
10To shorten the shaft of the arrow, click the Pointer Tool on the Standard toolbar, and drag the right middle selection handle to the left, five grid notches.
11To rotate the selected arrow so that it points to the auditorium, click the Shape menu, point to Rotate or Flip, and click Flip Vertical.
12To cancel the selection of the shape, press the ESC key.

Working with Groups of Shapes

1To find the title shape that you need to add to the drawing, in the Shapes window, click the Borders and Titles stencil, and then click below the scroll box in the scroll bar of the stencil.
2To add a title shape to the drawing page, drag the Title block compass shape to the indicated area on the drawing page.
3To select one of the component shapes within the selected group shape, click the Title text block, as indicated.
4To replace the placeholder text, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the new title typed for you.
5To format the selected text block, on the Standard toolbar, click the Bold button, and then click the Font Color arrow and click the Light Orange color, as indicated.
6To format the bar below the text block, click the bar, and then, on the Standard toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and click the Light Green color, as indicated.
7To see if you can make the bar wider, point first to the center left selection handle, and then to the center right selection handle, and notice that the pointer does not change to a two-headed arrow.
8To cancel the selection of the shape, press the ESC key.
9To select the title group so that you can make the entire title wider, click anywhere in the group.
10To resize the title group, drag the right middle selection handle to the indicated area on the right.
11To move the selected group, drag the title group to the right and down, to the indicated area.
12To select the Entrance text block and the two arrows below it so that you can group them, click Entrance, hold down the SHIFT key, click the left arrow and then the right arrow, and release the SHIFT key.
13To group the selected shapes, click the Shape menu, point to Grouping, and then click Group.

Finding Shapes for Diagrams

1To look for and open a stencil that might include plant shapes, on the Standard toolbar, click the indicated Shapes button, point to Building Plan, and then click Office Accessories.
2This stencil has a few plant shapes, but you want to see what else might be available. To search all the available stencils for plant shapes, click in the Search for Shapes box in the Shapes window.
3To search by keyword, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the keyword typed for you.
4To run the search, click the arrow button to the right of the Search for Shapes box.
5Notice that the search results appear as shapes in a new stencil with the search keyword as its name. To see if the stencil includes plant shapes, in the Shapes window, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar.
6To add a plant shape to the drawing, drag the indicated shape from the search results stencil to the area just above the Last name A-M shape on the drawing page.
7To search with a different keyword, click the word plant in the Search for Shapes box, and press SPACEBAR to have a new keyword typed for you.
8To run the search, click the arrow button to the right of the Search for Shapes box.
9To add a waste can shape to your drawing, drag the Round waste can shape from the search results stencil to the area just below the Last name N-Z shape.
10To close the search results stencil, click the icon on the title bar of the open stencil, and click Close.

Previewing and Printing Diagrams

1To view the complete drawing page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Zoom arrow, and then click Page.
2To view page breaks, click the View menu, and then click Page Breaks.
3To display your document as it will print, on the Standard toolbar, click the Print Preview button, as indicated.
4To see the current print setup, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Setup.
5To change the print setup so that the diagram will fit on a single page, on the Print Setup tab of the Page Setup dialog box, click the Fit to option in the Print zoom area, and then click OK.
6To change the drawing page size so that the diagram will fit the paper, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Setup, click the Page Size tab of the Page Setup dialog box, click the Same as printer paper size option, and click OK.
7To review the settings that will be used for printing, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Print.
8To specify that you want to print seven copies of the diagram, for the purposes of this exercise, press SPACEBAR to have the new number typed for you in the Number of copies box in the Print dialog box.
9To print seven copies of the diagram on the printer designated in the Name box, click OK.
10To return to the Visio window, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Close.
