Working with a Presentation
Creating a Presentation Using a Design Template
| 1 | To begin applying a design template to a presentation, in the New Presentation task pane under New, click From Design Template. |
| 2 | To increase the size of the design template previews, point to the template under Apply a design template, click the down arrow on the right side of the template, and click Show Large Previews on the menu. |
| 3 | To choose a different slide design, in the Slide Design task pane, click four times below the scroll box on the scroll bar and then click the Capsules slide design at the top of the preview list. |
| 4 | To reduce the size of the previews to allow more room in the Slide pane, click the down arrow on the right side of the template you just applied and click Show Large Previews to deselect it. |
| 5 | To adjust the layout of your presentation, click the Other Task Panes arrow in the title bar of the Slide Design task pane and then click Slide Layout in the list. |
| 6 | To apply the Title Only slide layout to the selected slide, in the Text Layouts area of the Slide Layout task pane, click the Title Only layout (top row, right column). |
| 7 | To close the Slide Layout task pane, click the Close button on the Slide Layout title bar. |
| 8 | To save your new presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. |
| 9 | To give your presentation a name, in the File name box, type DesignTemplate. |
| 10 | To save your presentation in the Presentations folder, double-click the Presentations folder and click Save. |
Entering Text and Adding New Slides
| 1 | To add text to the title slide, click the text placeholder Click to add title and type How to Transplant a Tree. |
| 2 | To apply the Title Slide layout to the slide, first click the View menu and then click Task Pane to display the Slide Layout task pane. |
| 3 | In the Slide Layout task pane under Text Layouts, click the Title Slide layout (top row, left column). |
| 4 | To add a subtitle to the slide, click the text placeholder Click to add subtitle. |
| 5 | Type Catherine Turner, press the ENTER key, and type The Garden Company. |
| 6 | To add a new, empty slide after the current slide, click New Slide on the Formatting toolbar. |
| 7 | To add a title to the new slide, click the text placeholder Click to add title and type First Steps. |
| 8 | To close the Slide Layout task pane, click the Close button in the title bar of the task pane. |
| 9 | To view an outline of your presentation, in the Outline/Slides pane, click the Outline tab. |
| 10 | To add text to Slide 2, in the Outline/Slides pane, click to the right of the text First Steps. |
| 11 | Hold down the CTRL key, and press ENTER. |
| 12 | Type Choose the right time to transplant, and then press ENTER. |
| 13 | To add text to the second bullet, type Prepare the soil and then press ENTER. |
| 14 | To add text to the third bullet, type Prepare the roots and then press ENTER. |
| 15 | To add a new slide, click the View menu, point to Toolbars, and click Outlining. |
| 16 | On the Outlining toolbar, click the Promote button (arrow pointing to the left at the top of the toolbar). |
| 17 | To add a title to the slide, type Transporting the Tree and then press ENTER. |
| 18 | To begin a bulleted list for Slide 3, press the TAB key. |
| 19 | To add text to the bulleted list, type Be gentle and then press ENTER. |
| 20 | To add two more bullets to the list, type Go slowly, press ENTER, and then type Take extra care. |
| 21 | To add a new slide after Slide 3, hold down the CTRL key and press ENTER. |
| 22 | To add a title to the new slide, type Summary. |
| 23 | To add a bulleted list, press ENTER and then press the TAB key. |
| 24 | To add text to the bullet, type Create a plan. |
| 25 | To save your new presentation with a new name, click the File menu and click Save As. |
| 26 | To give your presentation a name, in the File name box, type TransplantTree and click Save. |
Inserting and Rearranging Existing Slides
| 1 | To place an insertion point where you want to insert a new slide, on the Outline tab of the Outline/Slides pane, click to the right of the last bullet in Slide 4. |
| 2 | To insert a slide, click the Insert menu and click Slides from Files. |
| 3 | To browse for a slide presentation, click Browse. |
| 4 | Double-click the Presentations folder, click the ReplantTree file, and then click Open. |
| 5 | To select the slides you want to insert, click Slide 2, click Slide 3, click the Right scroll arrow, and then click Slide 4. |
| 6 | To insert the slides, click Insert and then click Close to close the Slide Finder dialog box. |
| 7 | To view thumbnail versions of all the slides in the presentation, click the Slide Sorter View button (second button from the left) at the lower-left corner of the Outline/Slides pane. |
| 8 | To move Slide 4, click Slide 4 (Summary), hold down the mouse button, and drag it to the empty space after Slide 7 (Maintenance). |
| 9 | To move slide 5, click Slide 5 (Resources for Help), hold down the mouse button, and drag it to the space between Slide 6 (Maintenance) and Slide 7 (Summary). |
| 10 | To return to Normal view, double-click Slide 2. |
| 11 | To save your new presentation in the Presentations folder with the same name (TransplantTree), click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. |
Entering Speaker Notes
| 1 | To enter speaker notes for Slide 2, first click the Next Slide button at the bottom of the scroll bar on the right side of the Presentation window. |
| 2 | In the Notes pane in Slide 2, click the text placeholder Click to add notes. |
| 3 | Type Plan out your project. |
| 4 | To switch to Notes Page view, click the View menu and click Notes Page. |
| 5 | To change the view scale, click the Zoom arrow on the Standard toolbar and then click 75% in the list. |
| 6 | To advance to Slide 3, click the Next Slide button at the bottom of the scroll bar on the right side of the Presentation window. |
| 7 | To enter speaker notes for Slide 3, click the text placeholder Click to add text. |
| 8 | Type It is important. |
| 9 | To fit the entire notes page in the window, click the Zoom arrow on the Standard toolbar and then click Fit in the list. |
| 10 | To view the notes in Normal view, click the Normal View button, the first button on the left in the lower-left corner of the window. |
| 11 | To save your new presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. |
