Adding and Modifying Slide Text


Adding and Moving Text on Slides

1 To begin modifying text in a slide, in the Slides pane, click Slide 3.
2 To replace text in the bulleted list, double-click TGC and type The Garden Company.
3 To create a text box, click the View menu, point to Toolbars, and click Drawing.
4 On the left portion of the Drawing toolbar, click the Text Box button and then click in the lower-left area of the slide, just inside the existing text box.
5 To add text, type See slide 5 and press the SPACEBAR.
6 To move the text box you just created, click the right edge of the box (when the pointer turns into a four-headed arrow), hold down the mouse button, and drag the box to the lower-right corner of the slide.
7 To move to Slide 5, in the Slides pane, click Slide 5.
8 To add a text box to this slide, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Text Box button, and then click just below the last bullet in the list and drag down ½ an inch and to the right to create a text box that extends approximately three-fourths of the way across the slide.
9 Type The Garden Company staff can, and then press the SPACEBAR.
10 To save the presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar.

Changing Text Alignment and Spacing

1 To enlarge the selected text box and realign the text inside, click the middle resize handle on the right border of the text box, hold down the mouse button, and then drag the handle to the right almost to the edge of the slide.
2 To adjust the formatting of the selected text box, click the Format menu and click Text Box.
3 Click the Text Box tab.
4 To turn off Word Wrap for this text box, click the Word wrap text in AutoShape check box to deselect it and click OK.
5 The text is obviously too long to fit on the slide, so to restore Word Wrap to the text in the text box, click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar.
6 To move to Slide 8, in the Slides pane, click Slide 8.
7 To select the text box at the bottom of the slide, click the word The at the beginning of the paragraph.
8 To align the text in the object with the center of the text box, click the Center button on the Formatting toolbar.
9 To increase the paragraph spacing in the text box, click the Increase Paragraph Spacing button on the Formatting toolbar.
10 To select the bulleted list text object, click the word Other in the last bullet.
11 To change the line spacing in the text box, click the Format menu and click Line Spacing.
12 Click the Before paragraph down arrow two times until 0.1 appears, and then click OK.
13 To save the presentation with the same name, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar.

Finding and Replacing Text and Fonts

1 To begin searching for specific text to find and replace, click the Edit menu and click Replace.
2 To enter specific text to find, type Supplies.
3 To enter the replacement text, press the TAB key and type Supplies and equipment in the Replace with box.
4 To find only instances of the text with matching capitalization, click the Match case box to select it.
5 To find and select the first instance of the word Supplies, click Find Next.
6 To replace the word with the replacement text, click Replace.
7 A Microsoft PowerPoint alert box appears, indicating that there are no other instances of Supplies in this presentation. Click OK to close the alert box.
8 To close the Replace dialog box, click Close.
9 To review text on Slide 8, in the Outline/Slides pane click below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click Slide 8.
10 To select a text object to review, in the Slide pane, click just to the left of the word Garden at the bottom of the slide.
11 Notice that the font style is Arial, as indicated in the Font box at the far left side of the Formatting toolbar. To change all instances of text formatted with the Arial font to the Book Antiqua font, click the Format menu and click Replace Fonts.
12 Arial is already indicated in the Replace box. To select the replacement font, click the With down arrow, click Book Antiqua, and then click Replace.
13 Notice that the text font is changed. To close the Replace Font dialog box, click Close.
14 To save the presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar.

Correcting and Reformatting Text While Typing

1 To enable PowerPoint to automatically correct a word you frequently mistype, click the Tools menu and click AutoCorrect Options.
2 Type likns in the Replace box.
3 To add the correct spelling of the word, press the TAB key, type links in the With box, and then click Add.
4 To close the AutoCorrect dialog box, click OK.
5 To test the new AutoCorrect entry, in the Slides pane, click Slide 5.
6 Click in the blank area immediately after the word Internet, press the SPACEBAR, type likns, and press the SPACEBAR again.
7 The text is corrected. Suppose now you want to add new text to a slide. In the Slides pane, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar and click Slide 7.
8 Click to the right of the word table in the last line of the text box, and then press ENTER.
9 Type Installing a new lawn.
10 To display the AutoFit Options button menu, point to the AutoFit Options button to the left of the bulleted text you just entered and click the AutoFit Options arrow.
11 To fit two bulleted lists on this slide, click Change to Two-Column Layout in the list.
12 To move text from column 1 to column 2, click to the left of the word Creating in the third bullet from the bottom in column 1, press and hold down the SHIFT key, and then click to the right of the word lawn in the last bullet.
13 Click the Edit menu, click Cut, click the placeholder text Click to add text in column 2, click the Edit menu again, and click Paste.
14 To add a fourth bullet to column 2, press ENTER and type Installing a sprinkler system.
15 To deselect the text box, click below the text box on the slide.
16 To save the presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar.

Checking Spelling and Presentation Styles

1 To move to Slide 8, in the Outline/Slides pane, click Slide 8.
2 To select the French phrase Je ne saise quoi in the text box, click to the left of the word Je and drag to the right to the end of the word quoi.
3 To display the Language dialog box, click the Tools menu and click Language.
4 To mark the selected words as French words for the spelling checker, type f, click two times below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click French (France), and then click OK.
5 To check spelling for the entire presentation, click the Spelling button on the Standard toolbar.
6 To correct the misspelled word saise, in the Spelling dialog box, click Change.
7 To add the proper name Gallos to the custom dictionary, click Add in the Spelling dialog box.
8 To correct the misspelled word Saeting, click Change.
9 To close the dialog box that appears when PowerPoint completes the spelling check, click OK.
10 To begin setting style options for checking style in a presentation, in the Slides pane, click above the scroll box on the scroll bar and click Slide 1.
11 To display the Options dialog box, click the Tools menu and click Options.
12 To see a list of spelling and style options, click the Spelling and Style tab.
13 To display the Style Options dialog box, click the Check style check box to select it and then click the Style Options button.
14 To check that the slide titles in the presentation do not have punctuation, click the Slide title punctuation check box to select it, click the Slide title punctuation down arrow, click Paragraphs do not have punctuation to select that option, and then click OK.
15 To close the Options dialog box, click OK again.
16 To check the slide title style on Slide 4, in the Slides pane, click Slide 4 and then click just to the left of the word Know in the slide title text.
17 Click the light bulb that appears in the upper-left area of the slide.
18 To capitalize the word Your in the slide title, click Change the text to title case.
19 Click the light bulb again, and then click Remove end punctuation to delete the period from the end of the slide title text.
20 To move to Slide 5, in the Slides pane, click Slide 5.
21 To change the capitalization of the first bullet, click the bullet to select it.
22 Click the Format menu, and click Change Case.
23 To change the capitalization of the text to sentence case, click OK.
24 To save the presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar.
