Outlining Your Ideas
Entering Text and Inserting an Outline
| 1 | To begin creating a blank presentation, on the Standard toolbar, click the New button. |
| 2 | To close the task pane, on the title bar of the Slide Layout task pane, click the Close button. |
| 3 | To begin entering text in the outline, in the Outline pane, click the Outline tab. |
| 4 | To enter text, in the Outline pane, click to the right of the Slide 1 icon, type Training the New and Experienced Gardener, and then press ENTER. |
| 5 | To change the newly added slide to a paragraph on Slide 1, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Demote button (second arrow), type The Garden Company, and then press ENTER. |
| 6 | To add text that will become the title to a new slide, type Setting a Comfortable Class Atmosphere, and then on the Outlining toolbar, click the Promote button (first arrow). |
| 7 | To add another new slide, press ENTER. |
| 8 | To add text on the new slide, type Name Tags. |
| 9 | To change the title of Slide 3 to paragraph text beginning with a bullet, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Demote button. |
| 10 | To change the view scale from 33% to 25%, on the Standard toolbar, click the Zoom arrow, and then click 25%. |
| 11 | To return to the original view scale, on the Standard toolbar, click in the Zoom box, type 33, and press ENTER. |
| 12 | To collapse a slide to view only the title, click to the right of the Slide 2 title, and then on the Outlining toolbar, click the Collapse button (minus sign). |
| 13 | To view only the slide titles, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Collapse All button (seventh button from the top). |
| 14 | To expand a slide, click to the right of the Slide 1 title, and then on the Outlining toolbar, click the Expand button (sixth from the top). |
| 15 | To view all of the text in the outline, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Expand All button (eighth button from the top). |
| 16 | To view the formatted text, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Show Formatting button (last button). |
| 17 | To switch the view from formatted text to plain text, on the Outlining toolbar, click the Show Formatting button. |
| 18 | To begin inserting an outline from Microsoft Word, in the Outline tab, under the Slide 2 title, click to the right of Seating Arrangement. |
| 19 | To insert the outline, click the Insert menu, and then click Slides from Outline. |
| 20 | In the Insert Outline dialog box, double-click the Presentations folder, ensure that the Outline file is selected, and then click Insert. |
| 21 | To deselect the newly inserted text, click a blank area to the right of the text in the Outline tab. |
Organizing Slides
| 1 | To begin organizing slides, in the Outline tab, click the Slide 4 icon. |
| 2 | To delete the slide, press DELETE. |
| 3 | To move to the top of the outline, click once above the scroll box on the vertical outline scroll bar. |
| 4 | To select text, position the I-beam pointer (which changes to the four-headed arrow) over the bullet next to the paragraph in Slide 3 titled Set an Atmosphere, and then click the bullet. |
| 5 | To delete the selected text, press DELETE. |
| 6 | To select multiple paragraphs, click the bullet next to Research your topic, press and hold the SHIFT key, click the bullet next to Walk through your project, and then release the SHIFT key. |
| 7 | To select the last paragraph in Slide 3, click and hold down the mouse button between the letters c and a in the word Locate, drag the pointer down and to the right to select the entire paragraph, and release the mouse button. |
| 8 | To deselect the text, click in the blank area to the right of the selected text. |
| 9 | To select a single word, double-click the word needed. |
| 10 | To rearrange the order of words, click and hold down the mouse button on the selected word, drag the word to the left of the word supplies, and release the mouse button. |
| 11 | To move to Slide 5, in the Outline tab, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar. |
| 12 | To select Slide 5, click the Slide 5 icon. |
| 13 | To rearrange the order of slides, click and hold down the mouse button on the Slide 5 icon, drag the icon down between Slides 6 and 7, and release the mouse button. |
| 14 | To rearrange paragraphs in Slide 6, click the bullet for the last paragraph, Project Preparation. |
| 15 | On the Outlining toolbar, click the Move Up button three times. |
| 16 | To move to the top of the outline, click once above the scroll box on the vertical outline scroll bar. |
| 17 | To move text horizontally, in Slide 3, position the mouse pointer on the bullet next to Walk through your project, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the selection left to align it with the other bullets, and then release the mouse button. |
| 18 | On the Outlining toolbar, click the Move Down button (fourth button from the top). |
| 19 | To delete a bullet point, click the third bullet in Slide 3, Make the classroom work for you, and then press DELETE. |
Formatting Text in an Outline
| 1 | To select the Slide 1 title text, in the Outline tab, double-click the blank area to the right of the word Gardener. |
| 2 | To apply bold formatting to this text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Bold button. |
| 3 | To change the color of the text, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and then click the Bright Green color box (far right side). |
| 4 | To format the Slide 1 subtitle text, in the Outline tab, position the mouse pointer to the left of the word The, click and hold down the mouse button, drag to the right until the entire line is selected, and release the mouse button. |
| 5 | To change the formatting to italics, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Italic button. |
| 6 | To change the font size of the subtitle text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 36. |
| 7 | To select the Slide 1 title again, in the Outline tab, double-click the blank area to the right of the slide title. |
| 8 | To increase the font size of the title, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Increase Font Size button. |
| 9 | To change the font of the title text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, click 3 times below the scroll box, and then click Times New Roman. |
| 10 | To select the subtitle text, in the Outline tab, position the pointer (which changes to a four-headed arrow), to the left of the word The and click once. |
| 11 | To change the font of the subtitle, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, and then click Times New Roman, (which is now at the top of the font list). |
Sending an Outline or Notes to Microsoft Word
| 1 | To send the outline to Microsoft Word, click the File menu, point to Send To, and then click Microsoft Word. |
| 2 | In the Send To Microsoft Word dialog box, click the Outline only option, and then click OK. |
| 3 | To save the presentation outline in Microsoft Word, click the File menu, and then click Save As. |
| 4 | In the Save As dialog box, double-click the Presentations folder. |
| 5 | To select the default file name, move the mouse pointer to the right of the existing text in the File name box, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse to the left until the entire text is selected and release the mouse button. |
| 6 | To rename the default file name, type PPTOutline and then press ENTER. |
| 7 | To close the Microsoft Word window, click the File menu, and then click Exit. |
| 8 | To save the presentation slide text in Rich Text Format, click the File menu, and then click Save As. |
| 9 | To replace the default name with a new name, type RTFOutline. |
| 10 | To save the presentation in Rich Text Format, click the Save as type arrow, click three times below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click Outline/RTF, and then click Save. |
