Adding and Modifying Design Templates


Applying a Design Template

1 To begin applying a design template to an existing presentation, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Slide Design button.
2 To locate a template, in the lower-left corner of the Slide Design task pane, click Browse.
3 To search for a template, on the left side of the Apply Design Template window, in the Places bar, click My Documents.
4 To navigate to the folder containing the template, double-click the Presentations folder.
5 To select the template, click the TGC Training Template 01 file.
6 To apply the template to your presentation, click Apply.
7 PowerPoint applies the characteristics of the TGC Training Template 01 template to your presentation. To close the task pane, in the Slide Design task pane, click the Close button.

Making Your Presentation Look Consistent

1 To view the master for this presentation, click the View menu, point to Master, and then click Slide Master.
2 The Title Master appears along with the Slide Master View toolbar. To view the Slide Master, in the Slides pane, click Slide 1.
3 To protect the original masters from being deleted or changed, on the Slide Master View toolbar, click the Preserve Master button.
4 Notice the gray thumbtacks that appear beside both masters in the Slides pane. To insert a new Slide Master, on the Slide Master View toolbar, click the Insert New Slide Master button.
5 To insert a new Title Master, on the Slide Master View toolbar, click the Insert New Title Master button.
6 Notice the new slide-title master pair is connected with a gray connection line. To remove the protection from the new masters, on the Slide Master View toolbar, click the Preserve Master button.
7 In the alert message box that asks if you want to delete the unused masters, click No.
8 Notice that the gray thumbtacks have disappeared from slides 3 and 4. To apply a different design template to these slides, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Slide Design button.
9 In the Slide Design task pane, under Apply a design template, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click the Bamboo design template (top right).
10 To switch to Handout Master view, click the View menu, point to Master, and then click Handout Master.
11 To change the number of handouts per page, on the Handout Master View toolbar, click the Show positioning of 3-per-page handouts button.
12 To view the Notes Master, click the View menu, point to Master, and then click Notes Master.
13 To return to Slide view, in the Notes Master View toolbar, click the Close Master View button.
14 To apply a design scheme to a specific slide, in the Slide pane, click Slide 7.
15 On the Slide Design task pane, under Used in This Presentation, point to the Bamboo design scheme, click the arrow on the scheme, and then click Apply to Selected Slides.
16 To close the task pane, in the Slide Design task pane, click the Close button.
17 To remove the slide number from the footer section of the Title slide, click the View menu, and then click Header and Footer.
18 Select the Slide number check box, and then select the Don’t show on title slide check box.
19 Click Apply to All, and then in the Slide pane, click Slide 1.
20 To verify that the slide footer information remains on the rest of the slides, in the Slides pane, click Slide 2.

Formatting Master Text and Bullets

1 To begin formatting a master text placeholder, click the View menu, point to Master, and then click Slide Master.
2 To select an object, in the Slides pane, click Slide 1, and then click the Number Area placeholder.
3 To increase the font size, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 18.
4 To deselect the Number Area placeholder, click the blank area to its left.
5 To select text for formatting, click the blank area to the right of the words Second level.
6 To change the formatting of the text to italics, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Italic button.
7 To deselect the second level text, click the blank area to its right.
8 To begin formatting the first-level bullet in the Slide Master, in the master text placeholder, click the words Click to edit Master text styles.
9 Click the Format menu, and then click Bullets and Numbering.
10 To increase the size of the bullets, in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, click the Size up arrow 5 times until 100 appears.
11 To replace a bullet with a picture, click Picture.
12 To select a picture, in the Picture Bullet dialog box, click the Nature bullet (first bullet, first row), and then click OK.
13 To select a bullet for customization, click to the right of the words Second level.
14 Click the Format menu, and then click Bullets and Numbering.
15 To customize the bullet, in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, click Customize.
16 To select a symbol, click once below the scroll box in the scroll bar, click the symbol in the top row, right column, and then click OK.
17 To increase the size of the bullet, click the Size up arrow twice until 85 appears, and then click OK.
18 To display the ruler, click the View menu, and click Ruler.
19 In the master text placeholder, click the line of text titled Click to edit Master text styles.
20 Five indent markers (one for each level of text) appear. To move the text of the first bullet to the right, position the mouse pointer over the upper-left indent marker, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the marker to the right until it is aligned with the lower-left indent marker, and release the mouse button.
21 To adjust the margin, position the mouse pointer over the left margin marker (the gray square beneath the lower-left indent marker), click and hold down the mouse button, drag the margin marker to the left margin of the ruler, and release the mouse button.
22 To create a hanging indent, position the mouse pointer over the lower-left indent marker, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the lower indent marker to the 0.5 inch mark on the ruler, and release the mouse button.
23 To return to normal view, on the Slide Master View toolbar, click the Close Master View button.

Saving a Presentation as a Template

1 To save the presentation as a design template, click the File menu, and then click Save As.
2 To replace the default name and save the template with a different name, in the File name box, type TGC Training Template 02.
3 Click the Save as type arrow, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click Design Template.
4 To store the template in the Presentations folder, in the Places bar, click My Documents.
5 In the My Documents folder, click the Presentations folder, and then click Open.
6 To save the template in this folder, click Save.
