Working with Objects and Colors


Adding and Grouping Objects

1 To begin drawing a 5-point star, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Stars and Banners, and then click the 5-Point Star button.
2 Position the pointer in the lower-right corner of the slide, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the pointer up to the word Company, and then release the mouse button and the SHIFT key.
3 To deselect the star object, click the blank area to the left of the 5-point star object.
4 To begin editing an existing object, in the Outline/Slides pane, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click the thumbnail for Slide 8.
5 To view the resize handles for the right arrow object, click the object.
6 To resize the object, position the pointer over the arrow’s right-middle resize handle. Click and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse to the right to align the object with the letter A in the word Garden, and then release the mouse button.
7 To reshape the arrow, position the mouse pointer over the adjustment handle (yellow diamond), click and hold down the mouse button, drag the pointer towards the left end of the arrow, until the arrow edge touches the lower middle resize handle, and release the mouse button.
8 To return the arrow to its original shape, click and hold the adjustment handle, drag the pointer to the right, midway between the right and middle resize handles, and release the mouse button.
9 To copy and paste the arrow object, on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy button, and then click the Paste button.
10 To move the new object beside the original one, position the mouse pointer over the new object, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the new arrow up and to the right of the original arrow so the new arrow tip is aligned with the letter m in the word Company.
11 To copy and move an object simultaneously, hold down the CTRL key, position the mouse pointer over the arrow on the right, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the outline of the arrow to the right until the tip of the arrow is aligned with the letter e in the word the, and then release the mouse button.
12 To select multiple objects, with the third arrow still selected, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click the middle arrow, and then click the arrow on the left.
13 To remove one object from the selection, with the SHIFT key still pressed, click the middle arrow.
14 To deselect all the objects, click the blank area below the arrows.
15 To select objects using the selection marquee, position the pointer above and to the left of the left arrow, click and hold down the mouse button, drag a selection box to the lower-right corner of the third arrow, and release the mouse button.
16 To copy your new selection, click the Edit menu, and click Copy.
17 The Office Clipboard appears. To paste the selection, in the Office Clipboard task pane, position the mouse pointer over the three-arrow object, click the arrow that appears, and then click Paste.
18 To close the Office Clipboard task pane, in the upper-right corner of the Clipboard task pane, click the Close button.
19 To move the new arrows, position the pointer, which changes to a four-headed arrow, over the new arrows, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the selection down and to the right until the objects are no longer overlapping, and then release the mouse button.
20 To navigate to another slide, in the Slide pane, click the Slide 5 thumbnail.
21 To begin grouping objects, position the pointer above and to the left of the upper object, click and hold down the mouse button, drag a selection box below and to the right of the lower object, and release the mouse button.
22 To group the two objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, and then click Group.
23 To change the fill color of the group, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and then click the blue color box.
24 To change the fill color of one of the objects in the group, click the top object.
25 On the Drawing toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and then click the red color box.
26 To ungroup the objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, and then click Ungroup. Notice each object has its own object box again.
27 To deselect the objects and move one individually, click a blank area to the right of the slide title, position the mouse pointer over the upper object, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the object to the right so it is aligned with the lower object, and then release the mouse button.
28 To regroup the objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, and then click Regroup.

Changing the Look of an Object

1 To select the arrow objects and change the way they look, press and hold down the SHIFT key, and click once in the center of each arrow object, starting from the left to right in the top row and then the bottom row, and then release the SHIFT key.
2 On the Drawing toolbar, click the Draw button, point to Change AutoShape, point to Stars and Banners, and then click the Change Shape to Horizontal Scroll button (fourth row, second column).
3 To deselect the objects, click the blank area in the lower-left corner of the slide.
4 To add text to objects, click the upper-left object, and then type Trees/Shrubs.
5 To add text to the top-middle object, click in its center, and then type Lawn Care.
6 To begin adding and modifying an object’s shadow, in the Outline/Slide pane, click the Slide 10 thumbnail.
7 To modify the color of the sun object, click the object, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow, and then click Fill Effects.
8 In the Fill Effects dialog box, click the Texture tab, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, click the Water Droplets textured fill (third row, first box from the left), and then click OK.
9 To modify the object’s frame, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Line Color arrow, and click the light orange color box (third box from the right).
10 To add a shadow to the sun object, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow Style button, and then click Shadow Style 6 (second box in the second row).
11 To increase the shadow on the sun object, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow Style button, and then click Shadow Settings.
12 In the Shadow Setting toolbar, click the Nudge Shadow Down button (the third button from the left) five times.
13 To create a semitransparent shadow, on the Shadow Settings toolbar, click the Shadow Color arrow (the first button from the right), and click the orange color box (third button from the right).
14 To close the Shadow Settings toolbar, click the Close button on the Shadow Settings toolbar.
15 To change the color of the text, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and then click the blue color box (second row, second button).
16 To change text to bold, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Bold button.
17 To change the font in the object, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, and click Comic Sans MS.
18 To copy the formatting applied to the sun object, with the sun object already selected, on the Standard toolbar, click the Format Painter button.
19 To apply the formatting to the lightning bolt object, click the object.
20 To deselect the object, click the blank area to the right of the slide title.

Aligning and Connecting Objects

1 To select both wave shapes so they can be aligned, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click the upper shape, click the lower shape, and then release the SHIFT key.
2 To center align the shapes, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Align or Distribute, and then click Align Center.
3 To align an object to a guide, click the View menu, and click Grid and Guides.
4 Click the Display grid on screen check box to select it, and then click OK.
5 To align the objects to the guide, position the mouse pointer over the objects, click hold down the mouse button, drag the objects to the left until their left edges are aligned with the four-inch vertical gridline and snap to the grid.
6 To display the drawing guides on the screen and remove the grid, click the View menu and click Grid and Guides.
7 In the Grid and Guides dialog box, click the Display drawing guides on screen check box to select it, click the Display grid on screen check box to deselect it, and click OK.
8 To reposition the vertical guide, move the mouse pointer over the vertical guide at the lower edge of the slide, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the guide to the left until it is aligned with the bulleted text (the mouse pointer should display 3.90), and release the mouse button.
9 To align the objects to the vertical guide, with the objects still selected, hold down the SHIFT key, position the mouse pointer over the objects, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the objects to the right until their left edges align with the vertical guide, and then release the mouse button and the SHIFT key.
10 To turn off the guides, click the View menu, click Grid and Guides, click the Display drawing guides on screen check box to clear it, and then click OK.
11 To deselect the objects, click the blank area in the lower-right corner of the slide.
12 To begin connecting shapes, in the Outline/Slides pane, click the thumbnail for Slide 4.
13 To connect the objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Connectors, and then click the Elbow Double-Arrow Connector button (second row, third item from the left).
14 To begin connecting two objects, position the pointer over the upper object.
15 To connect the upper object to the middle object, position the pointer over the outer blue handle on the right side of the upper object, and click the mouse button.
16 Move the mouse pointer to the left side of the middle object, position the pointer over the outer blue handle, and click the mouse button.
17 To select and insert another connector, on the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Connectors, and then click the Elbow Double-Arrow Connector button (second row, third item).
18 To connect the middle and lower objects, position the pointer over the right side of the middle object, over the outer blue handle, and click the mouse button.
19 Move the pointer to the left side of the lower object, position the pointer over the outer blue handle, and click the mouse button.
20 To select the connector line that connects the upper and middle objects, position the mouse pointer over the line and click the line.
21 To connect the line to a different point on the middle object, position the mouse pointer over the red handle on the right side of the connector line, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the line to the upper edge of the middle object, and release the mouse button.
22 To select both connector lines, with the upper connector line still selected, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click the lower connector line, and then release the SHIFT key.
23 To change the connector line style to a dashed line, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Dash Style button, and then click the Round Dot line style (second line from the top).
24 To format the line style, on the Drawing toolbar, click the Line Style button, and then click the 3 pt line style.

Changing Object Settings

1 To add a 3-D style to both objects on the slide, position the mouse pointer over the upper object, click the center of the object, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click the lower object, and then release the SHIFT key.
2 To choose a 3-D style effect, on the Drawing toolbar, click the 3-D Style button, and then click 3-D Style 6 (second row, second column).
3 To change the direction of the lighting effect, on the Drawing toolbar, click the 3-D Style button, and then click 3-D Settings.
4 On the 3-D Settings toolbar, click the Lighting button (third button from the right), and then click the Lighting Direction button (first row, third button).
5 To adjust the lighting angle, on the 3-D Settings toolbar, click the Tilt Left button (fourth button from the left) five times.
6 To make the objects look like pedestals, on the 3-D Settings toolbar, click the Depth button (sixth button from the left), and then click 144 pt.
7 To close the toolbar, click the Close button on the 3-D Settings toolbar.
8 To deselect the objects, click the blank area in the upper-right corner of the slide.
9 To begin changing the stacking order of objects, click once above the scroll box on the Outline/Slides pane scroll bar, and click the Slide 3 thumbnail.
10 To select an object on the slide, position the mouse pointer over the middle rectangle, and click the object.
11 To place the object behind the other two objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Order, and then click Send To Back.
12 To place the object in front of the other two objects, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Order, and then click Bring To Front.
13 To place the object between the two rectangles, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Order, and then click Send Backward.
14 To deselect the object, click the blank area below the objects.
15 To begin rotating and flipping shapes, click once below the scroll box on the Outline/Slides pane scroll bar, and click the Slide 7 thumbnail.
16 To select the curved arrow object, position the mouse pointer over the object, and click the mouse button.
17 To rotate the curved arrow object 90 degrees to the right, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Rotate or Flip, and then click Rotate Right.
18 To flip the object horizontally, on the Drawing toolbar, click Draw, point to Rotate or Flip, and then click Flip Horizontal.
19 To rotate the object, position the pointer over the green rotate lever, click and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse pointer down and to the left to rotate the arrow object to point at the upper double wave object, and release the mouse button.

Creating a Color Scheme

1 To view the available color schemes, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Slide Design button.
2 To choose a color scheme, in the Slide Design task pane, click Color Schemes.
3 To change the color scheme, in the Slide Design task pane, click the color scheme in the second column, on the fourth row.
4 To begin editing a color scheme, in the Outline/Slide pane, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click the Slide 9 thumbnail.
5 To edit an existing color scheme, in the lower-left corner of the Slide Design task pane, click Edit Color Schemes.
6 In the Edit Color Scheme dialog box, click the Title text color box, and click Change color.
7 In the Title Text Color dialog box, in the color palette click the Purple color (in the middle row, the third color hexagon from the right), and click OK.
8 To apply the color, in the Edit Color Scheme dialog box, click Apply.
9 To begin adding a custom fill color, in the Slide Design task pane, click Edit Color Schemes, and double-click the Fills color box.
10 To change the RGB settings, click the Custom tab, and in the Red box, double-click the existing number, and type 255.
11 In the Green box, double-click the existing number, type 207, and click OK.
12 To create a new color scheme, click Add As Standard Scheme.
13 To delete the color scheme, click the Standard tab, and click the color scheme box in the second column of the third row, and click Delete Scheme.
14 To apply the changes, click Apply.

Adding Colors to a Presentation

1 To begin adding a new color to the menu, position the pointer over the text object at the bottom of the slide, and then click the text object.
2 On the Drawing toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and on the Font Color menu, click More Colors.
3 To select a color, in the color palette that appears, click the dark maroon color in the lower-right corner of the color hexagon, and then click OK.
4 On the Drawing toolbar, click the Font Color arrow. The color that you just added appears on the second line of the color choices menu.
5 To close the color menu, click a blank area to the left of the slide under the object labeled Internet Links.

Adding and Modifying a Slide Background

1 To add a background color and texture to the presentation, click the Format menu, and click Background.
2 To select a specific background effect, in the Background dialog box, click the Background Fill arrow, and then click Fill Effects.
3 In the Colors area of the Fill Effects dialog box, click the One color option.
4 To select a color for the slide background, click the Color 1 arrow, and then click the green color box on the submenu.
5 To lighten the background color, in the Colors area, click four times to the right of the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
6 To change the background shading, in the Shading styles area, click the Vertical shading option.
7 To shade the slide background in a specific direction, in the Variants area, click the upper-right shading box, and click OK.
8 To apply the shaded background only to slide 8, click Apply.
9 To begin applying a textured background to a different slide, in the Outline/Slides pane, click two times above the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click the Slide 1 thumbnail.
10 To open the background dialog box, click the Format menu, and click Background.
11 In the Background dialog box, click the Background fill arrow, and then click Fill Effects.
12 To add a textured background to the slide, click the Texture tab, click the White marble textured fill (second row, second column), and click OK.
13 In the Background dialog box, click Apply.
14 To apply the background to all the slides in the presentation, click the Format menu, and then click Background.
15 To change the textured background back to white, click the Background fill arrow, and then click the White color box.
16 To apply the background to all the slides in the presentation, click Apply to All.
