Creating a Presentation
Getting Started with PowerPoint
| 1 | To start PowerPoint, click Start on the Windows taskbar, point to All Programs, and then click Microsoft PowerPoint. |
| 2 | To reduce the PowerPoint window to a taskbar button, click the Minimize button in the upper-right corner of the title bar. |
| 3 | To restore the PowerPoint window, click the Microsoft PowerPoint button on the taskbar. |
| 4 | To display a different task pane, click the Other Task Panes arrow in the title bar of the New Presentation task pane and then click Search in the list. |
| 5 | To make the Basic Search task pane larger, position the mouse pointer over the gray bar that separates the presentation window from the task pane until the pointer turns to a double-headed arrow. Click and drag the bar to the left about an inch. |
| 6 | To display the Advanced Search task pane, click Advanced Search under See also at the bottom of the Basic Search task pane. |
| 7 | To close the Search task pane, click the Close button on the title bar of the Advanced Search task pane. |
| 8 | To show the Search task pane again, click the View menu and click Task Pane. |
Creating a Presentation Using the AutoContent Wizard
| 1 | To create a presentation using the AutoContent Wizard, in the New Presentation task pane, under New, click From AutoContent Wizard. |
| 2 | Read the introduction to the wizard, and then click Next at the bottom of the wizard screen. |
| 3 | To view the list of presentations in the sales and marketing category, click the Sales/Marketing button. |
| 4 | To choose a presentation, click Product/Services Overview in the list and click Next to advance to the next page of the wizard. |
| 5 | The selected presentation type, On-Screen Presentation, is fine, so click Next to advance to the next page of the wizard. |
| 6 | To enter information for the title slide, click in the Presentation title box and type Training Classes. |
| 7 | To enter information for the footer area of each slide, press the TAB key to move the insertion point to the Footer box and type The Garden Company. |
| 8 | You don't want the date or slide numbers to appear on your slides, so click in the Date last updated check box and then click in the Slide number check box to clear these options. |
| 9 | To advance to the last page of the wizard, click Next. |
| 10 | To close the wizard and view your new presentation, click Finish. |
| 11 | To save your new presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. |
| 12 | To create a folder in which to save your file, click the Create New Folder button on the Save As dialog box toolbar, type Presentations, and click OK. |
| 13 | To save the presentation to the Presentations folder using the default file name, click Save. |
Browsing Through a Presentation
| 1 | To begin browsing through the outline of this presentation, on the scroll bar next to the Outline/Slides pane, click the Down scroll arrow three times. |
| 2 | To view the remainder of the outline, in the Outline/Slides pane, click below the scroll box on the scroll bar. |
| 3 | To view Slide 2 in the Slide pane, click the Down scroll arrow in the lower-right area of the screen. |
| 4 | To view Slide 1 again, click the Previous Slide button in the lower-right area of the screen. |
| 5 | To view Slide 3, click two times below the scroll box on the scroll bar. |
| 6 | To see the last slide in the presentation, click on the scroll box on the far right side of the screen, hold down the mouse button, drag the scroll box to the bottom of the scroll bar, and release the mouse button. |
| 7 | To jump to Slide 5, in the Outline/Slides pane, click the slide icon next to Specifications. |
Editing Text and Deleting Slides
| 1 | To select text that you want to change, in the Outline/Slides pane, double-click the word Overview in Slide 2. |
| 2 | To change the slide title text, type Customer Training Classes. |
| 3 | To select bulleted text that you want to change, in the Outline/Slides pane, triple-click anywhere within the bulleted text that begins Briefly describe the product in Slide 2. |
| 4 | Type Create gardening classes for customers. |
| 5 | To change the text of the next bullet in Slide 2, click the bullet next to the text Outline different models available and then type Create training classes for instructors. |
| 6 | To reverse your last action, the text typing, click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar. |
| 7 | To undo the changes you made to the first bullet and the title text for Slide 2, first click the arrow next to the Undo button on the Standard toolbar. |
| 8 | On the Undo button menu, click the second item, Typing. |
| 9 | To restore the title text in Slide 2, click the Redo button on the Standard toolbar. |
| 10 | To restore the bulleted text for both bullets, click the Redo button arrow on the Standard toolbar and then click the second item in the list, Typing. |
| 11 | To change text in Slide 3, first click the Next Slide button in the Slide pane to display Slide 3. |
| 12 | To edit the title text, in the Slide pane, click just to the left of the title text Features. |
| 13 | Type Class, and then press the SPACEBAR. |
| 14 | To select and edit the text in the first bullet in Slide 3, in the Slide pane, triple-click anywhere within the bullet text that begins Use several slides to outline and then type Hands-on training. (including the period). |
| 15 | To select and edit the text in the second bullet in Slide 3, in the Slide pane, click the bullet next to the text that begins Group features in logical and type Step-by-step instruction. |
| 16 | To add a new bullet and text to the list, press the ENTER key and then type Full-color handouts. |
| 17 | To delete a bullet in Slide 3, click the bullet next to the text that begins Be sure to state the user benefit and then press the DELETE key. |
| 18 | To delete the next bullet in Slide 3, click the bullet next to the text that begins Use one slide per model and then press the DELETE key. |
| 19 | To deselect the text object, click in the Slide pane to the left of the text selection box. |
| 20 | To delete a slide from the presentation, in the Outline tab on the Outline/Slides pane, click the slide icon next to Slide 4, Applications, and then press the DELETE key. |
| 21 | To delete the slide entitled Specifications, which is now selected, click the Edit menu and click Delete Slide. |
| 22 | To save your changes to this presentation, click the Save button on the Standard toolbar. |
Viewing a Presentation
| 1 | To view thumbnails of slides in the Outline/Slides pane, click the Slides tab. |
| 2 | To view all the slides in the presentation in miniature in the Presentation window, click the Slide Sorter View button, the second button from the left at the lower-left corner of the Outline/Slides pane. |
| 3 | To quickly view only the title of Slide 2 without any formatting, hold down the ALT key and then click and hold down the mouse button on Slide 2 in the Presentation window . |
| 4 | To view Slide 4 in Notes Page view, click the View menu and click Notes Page. |
| 5 | To return Slide 4 to Normal view, double-click anywhere within Slide 4. |
| 6 | To view the first slide as it will appear to the audience of your presentation, click the Slide 1 thumbnail in the Outline/Slides pane and then click the Slide Show button, the third button from the left in the lower-left corner of the Outline/Slides pane. |
| 7 | To advance to the next slide in the presentation, click anywhere on the screen. |
| 8 | To advance through each slide to the end of the presentation, press the SPACEBAR two times, press the RIGHT ARROW key, and press ENTER. |
| 9 | To return to Normal view, click anywhere on the black screen that appears after the last slide in the presentation. |
