Creating Your Own Web Site


Creating a Web Site

1 To start creating a one-page Web site using a template, in the New Page or Web task pane, in the New from template area, click Web Site Templates.
2 In the Web Site Templates dialog box, the One Page Web icon is already selected. To start defining the location of your Web site, click Browse.
3 To specify the location of your Web site, in the New Web Location dialog box, double-click the Garden Company folder, and double-click the Webmaster subfolder.
4 To open the Sample subfolder, click Sample, and then click Open.
5 To accept the creation of a one page Web site called Sample, in the Web Site Templates dialog box, click OK.
6 To open index.htm, in the Folder List, double-click index.htm.
7 To use another template to create a personal Web site, on the Standard toolbar, click the arrow on the Create a new normal page button (first button in the second row), and then click Web.
8 To start defining the location of your personal Web site, click Browse, and in the New Web Location dialog box, double-click the Garden Company folder.
9 To specify the folder for your Web site, double-click the Webmaster subfolder, click Personal, and then click Open.
10 To open a second instance of FrontPage by creating another Web, in the Web Site Templates dialog box, click the Personal Web icon, and then click OK.
11 To view the home page of the personal Web site in the Page view editing window, in the Folder List, double-click index.htm.
12 To close the personal Web site, click the File menu, and click Close Web.
13 To close the second instance of FrontPage and return to the first instance, in the upper-right corner of the FrontPage window, click the Close button.
14 To close the sample one-page Web site, click the File menu, and click Close Web.
15 To create a Web Site using a wizard, on the Standard toolbar, click the arrow on the Create a new normal page button, and then click Web.
16 To start defining the location of the new Web site, click Browse, and in the New Web Location dialog box, double-click the Garden Company folder.
17 To specify the folder for your Web site, double-click the Webmaster subfolder, click GardenCo, and then click Open.
18 In the Web Site Templates dialog box, click the Corporate Presence Wizard icon, and then click OK.
19 To specify the details for Web creation, in the Corporate Presence Web Wizard, click Next.
20 To complete creating the Web site, in the What is the full name of your company box, type Garden Company, press the TAB key, type GardenCo, and then click Finish.
21 To switch to the Tasks view, on the Views bar, click the Tasks icon.
22 To assign the task of customizing the home page, in the Tasks pane, double-click Customize Home Page.
23 In the Task Details dialog box, to modify the Assigned to: box, press the TAB key, type Cathy, and then click Start Task.
24 To close the home page, in the upper-right corner of the Page view editing window, click the Close button.

Inserting and Editing Text

1 To open the home page of the GardenCo Web site, in the Folder List, double-click index.htm.
2 To close the Folder List and enlarge your work area, in the upper-right corner of the Folder List, click the Close button.
3 To delete the introductory comment, in the body of the home page, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click at the end of the comment (after the word around), release the SHIFT key, and then press the DELETE key.
4 To enter the introductory paragraph, type Welcome to.
5 To communicate the Garden Company mission on the Web site, under the Our Mission heading, click to the left of the word Comment, press END, and then type At the.
6 To publish company contact information on the Web, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and under the Contact Information heading, position the mouse pointer after the comment paragraph, and click the mouse button.
7 To enter the contact information, type Please.
8 To add another paragraph under the Our Mission heading, click once above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, position the mouse pointer after the sentence ending with customers, click the mouse button, press ENTER, and then type We also.
9 To place an icon next to the Electronic mail heading, click two times below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, position the mouse pointer to the left of Electronic mail, and click the mouse button.
10 To browse through the symbols available in FrontPage, click the Insert menu, and click Symbol.
11 To select a particular font, in the Symbol dialog box, click the Font box arrow, click once below the scroll box in the font type list, and then click Webdings.
12 To select the mail icon, in the Symbol dialog box, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click the second mail icon (6th from the right in the bottom row).
13 To insert the icon on the Web page, in the Symbol dialog box, click Insert, and then click Close.
14 To preview the symbol, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Preview, and then click twice below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
15 To save the changes to your Web page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
16 To open the Tasks view, on the Views bar, click the Tasks icon.
17 To mark the selected Customize Home Page task as completed, click the Edit menu, point to Tasks, and select Mark Complete.

Inserting Existing Text

1 To begin assigning the task of customizing the news page, double-click the Customize News Page task.
2 To assign the task to yourself, press the TAB key, and then type CatherineT.
3 To begin customizing news.htm, in the Task Details dialog box, click Start Task.
4 To select and change the Web Changes heading, position the mouse pointer to the left of the word Web until the insertion point changes into an arrow, click the mouse button, and then type Press Releases.
5 To select the opening paragraph, press the RIGHT arrow key, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click after the period of the paragraph, and then release the SHIFT key.
6 To enter a new opening paragraph, type Keep up.
7 To select the comment, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, position the mouse pointer to the left of the word Comment until the insertion point changes into an arrow, and click the mouse button.
8 To insert existing text on the Web page, click the Insert menu, and click File.
9 In the Select File dialog box, double-click the Garden Company folder, and then double-click the Webmaster subfolder.
10 To insert a Microsoft Word document into the Web page, click the Files of type arrow, click Word 97-2002 (*.doc), click PressRelease, and then click Open.
11 To save your changes to the news page, and update the Tasks list, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button, and then click Yes.
12 To close the news page, in the upper-right corner of the work area, click the Close button.
13 To view the completed tasks in the Tasks view, on the Views bar, click the Tasks icon.
14 To begin customizing the services page, double-click the Customize Services Page task, and click Start Task.
15 To customize the services page banner, double-click the Services heading.
16 To change the page title, in the Page Banner Properties dialog box, double-click the word Services, type Class Offerings, and then click OK.
17 To copy text from an open Word document to the Office Clipboard, on the Windows taskbar, click Classes, position the mouse pointer over the the introductory paragraph, triple-click it, and then click the Edit menu, and click Copy.
18 To paste text on the services page, on the Windows taskbar, click the FrontPage button, move the mouse pointer over the comment, until the pointer changes into a hand, click the text, click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
19 To replace link names on the services page, double-click the Name of service 1 link, and type Autumn.
20 To select the first descriptive paragraph from the Class Offerings document, on the Windows taskbar, click Classes, and then triple-click the first paragraph below Autumn Planning for Spring Splendor.
21 To copy the paragraph to the Office Clipboard, click the Edit menu, click Copy, and then, on the Windows taskbar, click the FrontPage button.
22 To replace the corresponding services description, triple-click Description of service 1 ... click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
23 To open the Spring Splendor page, click the View menu, click Folder List, double-click serv01.htm, and on the Folder List, click the Close button.
24 To select all the content in the body of the Spring Splendor page, click twice below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click below the Reset Form button, and then release the SHIFT key.
25 To delete the selected content, press the DELETE key.
26 To view the content from the Word document, on the Windows taskbar, click Classes.
27 To select text for copying, click at the beginning of the first paragraph below the Autumn Planning for Spring Splendor heading, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click below the table, and then release the SHIFT key.
28 To copy the selected text to the Office Clipboard, click the Edit menu, and click Copy.
29 To paste the copied text on the Spring Splendor page, on the Windows taskbar, click the FrontPage button, click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
30 To save all your changes and mark the task as completed, click the File menu, click Save All, and then click Yes.

Formatting Text

1 To begin formatting text, in the first paragraph, click to the left of The Garden Company, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click to the right of Company, and then release the SHIFT key.
2 To increase the font size of the selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Increase Font Size button.
3 To select the last sentence of the first paragraph, click to the left of Whether, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click after the exclamation mark, and release the SHIFT key.
4 To italicize the selected sentence, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Italic button.
5 To preview the mail icon in the Contact Information section, at the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Preview, and then click two times below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
6 To make the mail icon more legible, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Normal, and then click two times below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
7 To increase the size of the mail icon, position the mouse pointer to the left of the mail icon, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse to the right to select the icon, release the mouse button, then on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Size arrow, and then click 6 (24 pt).
8 To insert a space between the icon and the adjacent text, position the mouse pointer between the mail icon and the word Electronic, click the mouse button, and then press the SPACEBAR.
9 To preview your changes, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Preview, and then click two times below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar.
10 To view the services page, in the upper section of the Page view editing window, click the services.htm tab.
11 To select the entire page, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click after the word mulch, and then release the SHIFT key.
12 To change the font of the services page, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font arrow, click four times below the scroll box on the Font scroll bar, and then click Trebuchet MS.
13 To insert a line break after the first paragraph, click above the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, click after the word activities, and press the ENTER key.
14 To select and change the color of text, position the mouse pointer to the left of the word geographical, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the pointer to the right of the word area, and then release the mouse button.
15 To change the font color of the selected text, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Font Color arrow, and under Standard Colors, click the Blue color (second row, second button from the right).
16 To open the Spring Splendor page, in the top section of the Page view editing window, click the serv01.htm tab.
17 To select a paragraph, position the mouse pointer to the left of the word Classes until the pointer changes to an angled arrow, click and hold down the mouse button, and drag the mouse down until the word students is selected, and then release the mouse button.
18 To apply a border to the paragraph, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Borders arrow, and click the Outside Borders button (first row, first button from the left).
19 To begin formatting the selected paragraph, click the Format menu, and click Paragraph.
20 To align the paragraph and set the line spacing, in the Paragraph dialog box, click the arrow next to the Alignment box, and click Center.
21 To set the left indentation of the paragraph, in the Paragraph dialog box, in the Indentation section, in the Before text box, double-click 0, and type 15.
22 To set the right indentation of the paragraph, press the TAB key, and in the After text box, type 15.
23 To set the line spacing to 0, in the Spacing section, click the up arrow next to the Before box, and then click the up arrow next to the After box.
24 To apply the formatting to the selected text, click OK.
25 To save all the open files, click the File menu, and click Save All.

Inserting Hyperlinks

1 To insert a line break and begin inserting hyperlinks, in the news.htm page, in the last line of the page, position the mouse pointer after the word Gardener, click the mouse button, and press ENTER.
2 To label your hyperlink, type Archived Press Releases, and press ENTER.
3 To browse for the file to which the hyperlink will be created, click the Insert menu, and click Hyperlink.
4 To insert the hyperlink, in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, click the Up One Folder icon, click PressRelease, and click OK.
5 To view the contents of the linked Press Release file from within FrontPage, press and hold down the CTRL key, click the PressRelease.doc link, and release the CTRL key.
6 To return to the Web site, in the upper-right corner of the window, click the Close button.
7 To save your changes, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.

Previewing Your Web Pages

1 To begin viewing the home page in the preview pane, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Preview.
2 To display the news page in the preview pane, on the left side of the page, click the News navigation link.
3 To return to the home page, at the upper-left corner of the page, click Home.
4 To view the page in a browser, click the File menu, and click Preview in Browser.
5 To accept Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 as the browser, in the Preview in Browser dialog box, click Preview.
6 To check the links to see if they are working, at the left side of the Web page, click the Products link.
7 To browse through another page of the Web site, at the right side of the Web page, click the Class Offerings link.
8 To view another page of the Web site, at the upper section of the Web page, click the Feedback link.
9 To go to the contents page of the Web site, at the upper section of the Web page, click the Contents link.
10 To browse through the search page of the Web site, at the upper section of the Web page, click the Search link.
11 To return to FrontPage, at the upper-right corner of the browser window, click the Close button.

Deleting a Web Site

1 To select a Web site and begin deleting it, in the Folder List, click the top-level folder of the site.
2 To specify whether to delete the folder or the entire Web, click the Edit menu, and click Delete.
3 To delete the Sample Web site, in the Confirm Delete dialog box, click the Delete this Web entirely option, and then click OK.
4 To begin opening the Personal Web site, on the Standard toolbar, click the Open Web button.
5 To locate the Personal Web site, in the Open Web dialog box, double-click Garden Company, and then double-click Webmaster.
6 To open the Personal Web site in FrontPage, click Personal, and click Open.
7 To specify whether to delete the folder or the entire Web, since the top-level folder in the Folder List is selected, click the Edit menu, and click Delete.
8 To delete the Personal Web site, in the Confirm Delete dialog box, click the Delete this Web entirely option, and then click OK.
