Presenting Information in Lists and Tables


Creating a List

1 To open the Spring Splendor page, in the Folder List, double-click serv01.htm.
2 To select the Key Benefits heading, press and hold down the SHIFT key, position the mouse pointer to the left of the letter K, press and hold down the mouse button, click to the right of the letter s, and then release the SHIFT key.
3 To replace the heading text, type You’ll Learn About: and then press the ENTER key.
4 To begin creating a bulleted list, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Bullets button, and type Spring-flowering plants.
5 To add a new bulleted item, press the ENTER key.
6 To enter text for the new bulleted item, type Luscious gardens.
7 To add a third bulleted item, press the ENTER key.
8 To enter text for the third bulleted item,type Protecting from Frost.
9 To save your changes and close the Spring Splendor page, in the upper-right corner of the Page view editing window, click the serv01.htm file’s Close button, and in the message box that appears, click Yes.
10 To open the Class Offerings page, in the Folder List, double-click services.htm.
11 To move the insertion point to the bottom of the page, press the PAGE DOWN key two times.
12 To add text and select it, type How to Register, press and hold down the SHIFT key, position the mouse pointer to the left of How, click the mouse button, and then release the SHIFT key.
13 To format the inserted text as a third-level heading, on the Formatting toolbar, click the arrow next to the Style box, and then click Heading 3.
14 To move to the end of the heading, and move to a new line, press the END key, press the ENTER key.
15 To begin creating a numbered list, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Numbering button.
16 To enter text for the first numbered item, type E-mail: classes@gardenCo.msn.com.
17 To add a new numbered item, press the ENTER key.
18 To enter text for the second numbered item, type Telephone: 425-707-9790.
19 To create a new line, and turn numbering off, press the ENTER key, and then, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Numbering button.
20 To save your changes, and close the Class Offerings page, in the upper-right corner of the Page view editing window, click the services.htm file’s Close button, and in the message box that appears, click Yes.

Creating a Table

1 To begin creating a table on the Spring Splendor page, in the Folder List, double-click serv01.htm.
2 To begin inserting a heading for the table, click the black horizontal rule towards the bottom of the screen, and then press the HOME key.
3 To enter and select the text of the table heading, type Class Schedule, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click to the left of the word Class, and then release the SHIFT key.
4 To format this text as a third-level heading, on the Formatting toolbar, click the arrow next to the Style box, and then click Heading 3.
5 To move the insertion point to the end of the heading and start a new line, press the END key, and then press the ENTER key.
6 To display the table grid, on the Standard toolbar, click the Insert Table button.
7 To insert a specific-sized table below the heading, point to the cell in the upper-left corner, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse pointer until an area three cells wide by ten cells high is highlighted, and then release the mouse button.
8 To save the changes made to the Spring Splendor page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
9 To open the Carnivorous Plants page, in the Folder List, click serv02.htm, and then press the ENTER key.
10 To begin inserting a heading for the table, click the black horizontal rule towards the bottom of the screen, and then press the HOME key.
11 To enter and select the text of the table heading, type Class Schedule, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click to the left of the word Class, and then release the SHIFT key.
12 To format this text as a third-level heading, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Style box arrow, and then click Heading 3.
13 To move the insertion point to the end of the heading, and start a new line, press the END key, and then press the ENTER key.
14 To insert a table, click the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Table.
15 To specify the number of rows and columns for the table, in the Insert Table dialog box, in the Size section, in the Rows field, type 9, press the TAB key, and then, in the Columns field, type 4.
16 To format the layout of the table, in the Layout section, click the Border size box down arrow, click the Cell padding box up arrow three times, and then click OK.
17 To save the changes made to the Carnivorous Plants page, on the Standard toolbar, click the Save button.
18 To open the Organic Byproducts page, in the Folder List, double-click serv03.htm.
19 To draw a table, click the Table menu, and click Draw Table.
20 Click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, position the pointer below the start of the black horizontal rule at the top of the Page view editing window, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the pointer down and to the right until the lower dotted line is above the word Address, and the right dotted line is approximately half an inch from the right of the screen, and release the mouse button.
21 To draw a line to create a column for the table, position the pencil pointer at the top border about half an inch away from the left border, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the pencil pointer to the lower table border, and then release the mouse button.
22 To draw a line to create a row for the table, position the pencil pointer slightly to the right of the left table border in line with feedback.htm, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the pencil pointer to the right table border, and then release the mouse button.
23 To move the right edge of column 1, move the mouse pointer over the right edge until the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the column edge half an inch to the right, and then release the mouse button.
24 To change the pointer back to its original shape, press the ESC key.
25 To close the Tables toolbar, in the upper-right corner of the Tables toolbar, click the Close button.

Entering Information in a Table

1 To begin creating a header row for a table, type Class, press the TAB key, type Date, click in the cell to the right, and type Time.
2 To begin entering information in the first row, after the header row of the table, press the TAB key, and type Spring Splendor.
3 To open the Organic Byproducts page, in the upper-section of the Page view editing window, click the serv03.htm tab.
4 To view the table, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then click once to the right of the scroll box on the horizontal scroll bar.
5 To begin entering data in the table, in the first row, click in the first cell on the left, and type Class.
6 To complete the header row for the table, press the TAB key, type Date, click in the cell to the right, and type Time.
7 To begin entering information in the first row, after the header row of the table, press the TAB key, and type Spring Splendor.
8 To open the Carnivorous Plants page, in the upper-section of the Page view editing window, click the serv02.htm tab.
9 To view the table, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and then click once to the right of the scroll box on the horizontal scroll bar.
10 To begin entering information in the first row, click the first cell on the left, and type Spring Splendor.
11 To complete the first row for the table, press the TAB key, type Date, in the same row, click in the last cell to the right, and type Time.
12 To save all the open files, click the File menu, and click Save All.

Editing the Structure of a Table

1 To begin rearranging the table's column data, in the fourth column from the left, click the top cell.
2 To select the fourth column, click the Table menu, point to Select, and then click Column.
3 To drag the time information to a different column, position the mouse pointer over the top cell of the selection, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse pointer to the top cell of the third column, and then release the mouse button.
4 To begin inserting new rows in the table, click anywhere in the top row of the table.
5 To select and insert a specific number of rows or columns, click the Table menu, point to Insert, and then, click Rows or Columns.
6 To add one row above the first row in the table, in the Insert Rows or Columns dialog box, in the Location section, click Above Selection, and then click OK.
7 To begin deleting a column in the table, click the top cell in the fourth column from the left.
8 To select the fourth column for deletion, click the Table menu, point to Select, and then click Column.
9 To delete the selected column, click the Table menu, and click Delete Cells.
10 To enter data in the new header row, click the left cell of the header row, and type Class.
11 To name the second and third columns, press the TAB key, type Date, click in the cell to the right, and then type Time.
12 To view another table, in the upper section of the Page view editing window, click the serv03.htm tab, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and click once to the right of the scroll box on the horizontal scroll bar.
13 To resize a column, point to the right border of the Date column until the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow, and then double-click the border.
14 To adjust all columns to the exact width of their contents, click the left cell of the header row, click the Table menu, and click AutoFit to Contents.
15 To view the present properties of the table, click the Table menu, point to Table Properties, and then click Table.
16 To modify the alignment and cell padding of the table, click the arrow next to the Alignment box, click Left, and then click the Cell padding box up arrow three times.
17 To change the table width setting, in the Specify width box, double-click the number 482, type 100, and then click the In percent option button to select it.
18 To set the border size and apply all your changes, in the Borders section, click the Size box down arrow, and then click OK.
19 To select the entire table, position the mouse pointer at the top of the first column so that it changes to a down arrow, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse to the right until all three columns are selected, and then release the mouse button.
20 To standardize the column width, click the Table menu, and click Distribute Columns Evenly.
21 To save all your changes to both pages, click the File menu, and click Save All.

Formatting a Table

1 To select the header row of the table, position the mouse pointer along the left border of the header row until the pointer changes into a right arrow, and press the mouse button.
2 To view the properties of the header row, click the Table menu, point to Table Properties, and then click Cell.
3 To specify that the selected row is the header row, click the Header cell check box.
4 To choose a color for the header row,in the Background area, click the arrow next to the Color box.
5 To apply a color from the default set, click the Aqua color (second row, third box from left), and then click OK.
6 To view the header row with a background color, in the first column, click the cell below the header row.
7 To view the table in the Spring Splendor page, click the serv01.htm tab, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and click once to the right of the scroll box on the horizontal scroll bar.
8 To view various formats for a table, click the left cell of the second row, click the Table menu, and then click Table AutoFormat.
9 To select a format for the table, in the Formats list box, click twice below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and then click Subtle 1.
10 To remove the special first column format, in the Apply special formats section, click the First Column check box, and then click OK.
11 To see the formatted table in the Preview pane, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Preview.
12 To observe the entire table in the Preview pane, click once below the scroll box on the vertical scroll bar, and click once to the right of the scroll box on the horizontal scroll bar.
13 To switch back to the Normal pane, in the lower-left corner of the Page view editing window, click Normal.
14 To select the three cells containing Spring Splendor in the first column, click the first cell below the word Class, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click the cell to the left of the cell containing the words Saturday, October 4, and then release the SHIFT key.
15 To merge the three cells containing Spring Splendor into one cell, click the Table menu, and click Merge Cells.
16 To modify the appearance of the cell, position the mouse pointer outside the left table border, to the left of the second instance of Spring Splendor, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the mouse pointer down until the third instance of Spring Splendor is selected, and then release the mouse button.
17 To leave only one instance of Spring Splendor in the merged cell, press the DELETE key.
18 To save all your changes to both pages, click the File menu, and then click Save All.

Creating a Table Within a Table

1 To begin creating a table within a table, in the fifth row from the top, click the cell that contains the words Carnivorous Plants.
2 To split the table into two tables, click the Table menu, and click Split Table.
3 To split the table again, in the fourth row from the top, click the cell that contains the words Organic Byproducts, click the Table menu, and then click Split Table.
4 To begin deleting the header row, in the top row, click the cell that contains the word Class.
5 To select the entire header row, click the Table menu, point to Select, and then click Row.
6 To delete the header row, click the Table menu, and click Delete Cells.
7 To insert a centered caption row at the top of the first table, click the upper-left cell of the Spring Splendor table, click the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Caption.
8 To enter the table caption, type Autumn.
9 To select the caption, press and hold down the SHIFT key, click to the left of Autumn, and release the SHIFT key.
10 To bold the caption, on the Standard toolbar, click the Bold button.
11 To select the first column, position the mouse pointer over the first column until the pointer changes to a downward-pointing arrow, and then click once.
12 To delete the first column, click the Table menu, and click Delete Cells.
13 To automatically fit the contents of the table in their cells, click the Table menu, and click AutoFit to Contents.
14 To close the Carnivorous Plants page, in the upper-left corner of the Page view editing window, click the Close button.
15 To save your changes to the Carnivorous Plants page, in the dialog box that appears, click OK.
