Publishing Project Information
Taking a Snapshot of a Project
| 1 | To begin creating a snapshot of your project, first filter the Gantt chart to display only summary tasks, click the Project menu, point to Filtered for: All Tasks, and then click Summary Tasks. |
| 2 | Click the View menu, and click Zoom. |
| 3 | In the Zoom dialog box, click the Entire project option and click OK. |
| 4 | On the Standard toolbar, click the Copy Picture button. |
| 5 | In the Copy Picture dialog box, under the Render Image section, click To GIF image file. |
| 6 | Microsoft Project prompts you to save the file in the same location as the Short Film.mpp file and with the same name, except with a .gif extension. Click OK. |
| 7 | To view the GIF image you just saved, click the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Web. |
| 8 | On the Web toolbar that appears, click the Go button and then click Open Hyperlink. |
| 9 | In the Open Internet Address dialog box, click Browse. |
| 10 | In the Browse dialog box, click the arrow to the right of the Files of type box, click two times below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click GIF Files. |
| 11 | In the Browse window, click the Short Film GIF file and click Open. |
| 12 | To display the image, in the Open Internet Address dialog box, click OK. |
Saving Project Information as a Web Page
| 1 | To save a Microsoft Project file as a Web page, click the File menu and click Save As Web Page. |
| 2 | In the Save As dialog box, Microsoft Project prompts you to save the Web page files in the same folder as the Short Film.mpp file. Click Save. |
| 3 | The Export Wizard appears. Click Next to continue. |
| 4 | Select the Use existing map option, and click Next. |
| 5 | On this page of the wizard, you choose a map to organize the way fields are exported. Click Export to HTML using standard template, and click Finish. |
| 6 | Microsoft Project saves the data in HTML format. To view the information, on the Web toolbar, click the Go button and then click Open Hyperlink. |
| 7 | In the Open Internet Address dialog box, click Browse. |
| 8 | In the Browse dialog, click the arrow to the right of the Files of type box, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click Web Pages. |
| 9 | In the Browse window, click the Short Film.html file and click Open. |
| 10 | To view the Web page in your browser, in the Open Internet Address dialog box, click OK. |
Changing the Look of a Project Web Page
| 1 | To create a Web page from Microsoft Project information with an added GIF image, first click the File menu and then click Save As Web Page. |
| 2 | In the Save As dialog box, Microsoft Project prompts you to save the information as a Web page in the same folder as the Short Film file. To delete the existing file name and save it with a new name, type Short Film with Gantt Chart and press the ENTER key. |
| 3 | The Export Wizard appears. Click Next to continue. |
| 4 | Select the Use existing map option, and click Next. |
| 5 | On this page of the wizard, you choose a map to organize the way fields are exported. Click Export to HTML using standard template, and then click Next. |
| 6 | On the Map Options page, in the Select the types of data you want to export section, click the Assignments check box to clear it. |
| 7 | Next, in the HTML options section, click Browse. |
| 8 | The Browse dialog box displays all the HTML templates that are included with Microsoft Project. In the list of templates, click Stripes Ivy and then click OK. |
| 9 | To add a GIF image to the page, click the check box next to Include image file in HTML page to select it. |
| 10 | Click Finish. |
| 11 | To view the Web page you just created, on the Web toolbar, click the Go button and then click Open Hyperlink. |
| 12 | In the Open Internet Address dialog box, click Browse. |
| 13 | In the Browse window, click the arrow to the right of the Files of type box, click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar, and click Web Pages. |
| 14 | Click the Short Film with Gantt Chart file, and click Open. |
| 15 | To view the Web page with the Gantt chart in your browser, in the Open Internet Address dialog box, click OK. |
| 16 | The GIF image of the Gantt chart is visible in the browser window. Click once below the scroll box on the scroll bar to see the tasks in table format in the Web page. |
