Formatting Shapes and Diagrams


Formatting Shapes

1 To select a shape, on the drawing page, click the Perennials, Bulbs and Tubers box shape.
2 To display the Fill Color palette, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Fill Color arrow.
3 To make the selected shape blue, on the Fill Color palette, click the Pale Blue color (bottom row, sixth color from the left).
4 To increase the border width of the selected shape, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Line Weight arrow, and then click the third line.
5 To copy the format of the selected shape to other shapes, on the Standard toolbar, double-click the Format Painter button, and then click the Bonsai Display box shape.
6 To continue copying the format to other shapes, click the Landscape Competition box shape, and then click the Conifers and Deciduous Trees box shape.
7 To switch from the Format Painter tool to the Pointer tool, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pointer Tool button.
8 To select a shape, click the top Enter auditorium arrow shape.
9 To begin changing the color of text in the selected shape, on the Formatting toolbar, click the Text Color arrow.
10 To change the color of text in the selected shape to gold, on the Text Color palette, click the gold color (fourth row, second color from the left).

Adding Decorative Elements

1 To display the Borders and Titles stencil, in the Shapes window, click the Borders and Titles tab.
2 To add a border and title to the drawing, on the Borders and Titles stencil, point to the Border classic shape, press and hold down the left mouse button, drag the shape onto the drawing page, and release the mouse button.
3 Notice that the border has automatically snapped into place. To select the new title, click the Title shape at the top of the page.
4 To zoom in on the selected title, on the Standard toolbar, click the Zoom arrow, and click 100%.
5 To select the title text and date in the title box, on the Standard toolbar, click the Text Tool button.
6 To change the title, double-click the word Title, and then type Garden Expo.
7 To change the displayed date, click the displayed date, and then type August 18-22, 2003.
8 To switch from the Text tool to the Pointer tool, on the Standard toolbar, click the Pointer Tool button.
9 To begin adding a background shape to the drawing, in the Shapes window, click the Backgrounds stencil.
10 On the Backgrounds stencil, point to the Background leaf shape, press and hold down the mouse button, drag the shape onto the drawing page, and release the mouse button.
11 In response to the message asking whether you want this shape to be the background shape for this image, click Yes.
12 Notice that an extra page called VBackground has been inserted into the drawing. To display only the background, on the lower-left of the drawing page window, click the VBackground page tab.
13 To display the Garden Expo layout again, on the lower-left of the drawing page window, click the Page-1 page tab.
14 To view the entire page at once again, on the Standard toolbar, click the Zoom arrow, and then click Page.
15 To change the color scheme of the drawing, click the Tools menu, and then click Color Schemes.
16 Notice that, in the Color Schemes dialog box, the Preserve my shape color changes check box is selected. To preserve the color changes you've made so far but apply the color scheme to all unformatted shapes, in the Choose a color scheme list, click Jade, and then click OK.

Printing a Diagram

1 To preview how a drawing looks like when printed, click the File menu, and then click Print Preview.
2 To display the print settings, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Setup...
3 To see the difference between the two options for paper orientation, in the Page Setup dialog box, under Paper orientation, click Landscape, and then click Portrait again.
4 To view the page size settings, click the Page Size tab.
5 To accept the default settings shown, click OK.
6 To begin printing the drawing page, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Print...
7 To print three copies of the drawing page, in the Print dialog box, in the Number of copies box, type 3, and then click OK.
8 To close the Print Preview window and return to the drawing page, on the Print Preview toolbar, click Close.
